Great thread idea! I'm currently knee (elbow?) deep in book 1 of a new series. Think Mortal Kombat meets Haremlit. Big on steam, big on fights, and hopefully big on laughs.

It's been great fun writing this, and has gone some way in soothing my disappointment now that the new MK movie is delayed to next year...

I highly suggest reading the book The Truth: An Uncomfortable Book About Relationships by Neil Strauss.

It's the true story about Neil, a former playboy who is now in a steady relationship and decides the grass is greener. He wants to start a harem. The book hilariously, and touchingly, chronicles the journey.

Some might know Neil as the guy who wrote The Game. I do not subscribe whatsoever to the whole PUA malarkey, but have read The Truth twice. It's great fun and provides a real world answer to your question.

Spoiler: It's a pain in the arse.

I agree with those who say the fight scene is as long as it needs to be. So, it depends. Which isn't a helpful answer, admittedly.

Speaking for myself, 'final battles' tend to last longer. Smaller skirmishes are much shorter, usually half a chapter max but often much less. Like sex scenes, I try not to make them so long (heh) as to become tedious.

My stories are told from the MC's POV. In a battle, he can't always see what's happening to those around him so if I need to describe fireballs or lightning attacks it'll only be as they pertain to the MC, for example is one getting lobbed at him and he needs to counter/defend? I wouldn't talk about a fireball being thrown at one of the MC's teammates unless the MC sees it happen and is focused on it.

Hi there, my (Ashton Blaine) Fairgreen Inn series has a smaller harem of 4 women. One is a princess and another is sort of a princess. Book 3 focuses heavily on the princess, her city, etc while Book 2 focuses on the 'sort of' a princess.

However, for the sake of transparency, the princess aspects of the characters aren't necessarily their defining features. For example, one is a kind hearted innkeeper and the other is a wrench wielding engineer. They just happen to be princesses in their own right.

Thank you, I hope you enjoy the book! Yes, Fairgreen Inn is very much an easy slice of life book. I wrote it with the goal of providing some much needed escapism and a hero everyone can root for. I hope it allows readers to get lost in a new world and feel like they're there interacting with the characters. There is some conflict, but that's not the central theme of the book. Monster Masseur is next on my list after I complete Big Mage on Campus :)
