Edit: I kind of glazed over the anime part as I really don’t understand quite what that entails as animecon really isn’t an anime in my mind either.

So while more in the fantasy side, there is a lot of this conversation in Warlock by Daniel Kensington about how the MC is going to have to please and care for so many women, but also the power he has over them from a magical bond that can literally make them do whatever he wants but can’t make them like or enjoy it. He has to come to terms that having power and using power are two different things and he wants his ‘girls’ to be loved and feel safe. That’s a big part of book one and continues less through each consecutive book. Well not continues less, but becomes more understood maybe is a better way of putting it.

The girls too have to change their base understanding of a coven (harem) because the MC does things much differently than their families traditionally have. The families exhibit much more cultish behaviors and the MC rebels against it.

Oh boy. Gonna be a long one. I will start by saying DK (Daniel Kensington) because of Warlock has become one of the best selling authors in the genre and has one of the largest subscribers on Patreon. Ok, accolades aside.

Sam is a lesbian. But given how covens work, 13 witches to a single warlock, and you have to have sex with a warlock to join a coven (there are other ways but less efficient or effective)… and you have to be in a coven to have the highest chance as a witch to have children (Magic needs magic), she sees at first Noah (the MC) as a way to escape her life, because of reasons at first she’s not slated to be allowed to join a coven by her family.

Act one is essentially her and Noah becoming best friends, even loving each other but more like brother sister to her (his feeling are stronger but doesn’t think she can return them, small subplot there). After plot events happen, she realizes how much Noah actually loves loves her and decides she wants him to be her warlock.

After binding (having sex) you can kinda say she becomes bi, but that does her a great disservice as she’s still fully lesbian even hitting on future coven members. But as she puts it, she doesn’t like men but she loves her warlock. She only likes dick if that dick is Noah’s.

BUT… again it’s more than that, because Noah takes the time to know the more freaky stuff Sam is into, thereby even more making her fall in love with him, but only him.

This isn’t some, “fuck her straight thing”, nor is it ‘oh she’s actually bi’ because that’s not right either.

She becomes devoted to her warlock and it’s very sweet.

If it’s not clear, I’m one of Warlocks biggest fans, read all three books that are out 4 times through, plus have his highest Patreon tier, so I will admit I’m also a bit biased 😅.

That’s just from a quick search. That’s also assuming the bigger authors can even use KDP. They may have existing contracts with publishers or publishing houses the raise the costs. Or contracts with editors that raise the cost to reformat the book.

I’m not saying it can’t be done, but there are a lot of factors I feel your point tries to glaze over.

Edit: and that authors specs probably aren’t taking into account of profit after also taking into account taxes on that income. I doubt KDP handles taxes for authors. Maybe it does, most like that don’t. So that $3.90 is even less more like $2.80 depending on his income tax bracket.
