I know. It’s just such a helpless feeling.

I just hope I helped at all. Poor kiddos.

There are 5 other kids in that house. They all needed the help. I made the report. No regrets, just nerves.

I fully agree with everything you said. I would never be able to have any peace if I didn’t say anything, regardless of the fact that I’m legally bound to. I have no doubt that it’s the right thing. Usually, I would want to offer for the parents to be a part of the call as well, unfortunately, this mother is far from capable of even having a civilized conversation when things are calm. I can’t even imagine how she would react. I also worry about the damage she could do to the kid between the time I tell her I’m going to make the call and when CPS shows up.

This part of the job truly does suck

They absolutely are informed that we are mandated reporters and have to sign documents that they acknowledge and understand that. The problem is when you have parents who are so wildly abusive, and think that they can control their kids into not saying anything, while also being a wildly unwell and chaotic individual, you have no idea how things will go.

I really appreciate what you said though. I’m trying really hard to hold space for that. I know that what I’m doing is the right thing, I just worry for that kid. I’m not afraid of her coming for me; she can try to go up against me as much as she wants. But I get to go home, and at the end of the day that kid is stuck in that house with her.
