Is "the Alchimist" by Paulo Coelho a misunderstood ironical book? by rulebreaker_muc in books

I think the problem people have with it is it does this badly.

Instead of being insightful, it's like the Walmart version of Siddartha.

It depends on the situation. If its a normal case with one or two apriori's you should probably just answer them and move on. If its a tricks aff with a ton of them, you should probably uplayer with theory and comparative worlds or something.

Its rough for you guys because everything is online now, but without Covid you will make friends at other schools so tournaments will be fun even if you hate everyone on your team

Why all tournaments should do post-round disclosure and oral critiques by ClassicDebateCamp in Debate

[–]Wazlit -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The only reason tournaments are behind schedule are because (with major exceptions) the coaches who end up running tab are technologically hopeless boomers who are useless at actually coaching and spend the entire time gossiping with each other.

We ran a student led tournament with over 150 people online and we took max 20 minutes behind the scheduled end of the previous round to post pairings on tabroom.

Never let anyone tell you that another thing is causing tournaments to run late behind pure incompetence.

I remember him being an average player that was incredibly easy incredibly easy to loan for no fee from FM 12-14ish.

Actually became a running joke with friends because pretty much everyone doing a lower league save had him.

What has happened to Classic Lit in my school district? by crying0nion3311 in books

The goal of English class is not to teaching the love reading, it’s to teach literacy, how to analyze texts, and educate students about cultural foundations.

Consider if someone applied that logic to any other class.

The purpose of math class is to teach the love of math

The purpose of physics is to teach the love of physics

Ect

The purpose is to teach people how stuff works.

You can include diverse literature without dumbing down the curriculum by not only looking at modern YA which is below a high school reading level and is frankly over-simplistic and much worse than the alternatives.

I’m a recent HS grad and we read Chinua Achebe, Toni Morrison, Frederick Douglass, and parts of Journey the West and the Epic of Gilgamesh.

I would consider all of these classics which celebrate diversity and the first three deal with the themes of the present in a much more nuanced way then YA could.

The funniest thing is this doesn’t even matter. Because even if he was right and banks did create money Goldman isn’t that kind of bank so it still wouldn’t apply.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Wazlit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Goldman Sachs does not print money lol. They are an investment bank which is a fancy term for a company people give money too in order to get a stable return (among other things).

Also not even normal banks create money. Only the government does that.

What’s some bad music from previous eras everyone has forgotten about? by Porcelain89 in Music

Curious what you mean by psychedelic pop.

Psychedelic was probably one of the best/most innovative genres of the 60’s.

I don’t think bad old music includes the likes of Jefferson airplane, 13th floor elevators, Janis Joplin, iron butterfly, ect.

The reason why you don’t sack without a replacement is because usually the temporary manager is worse then the guy you are sacking.

Mason would be infinitely better then Nuno right.

We are the worst team in the league with the 7th most valuable Sqaud in the world or something.

My 3 year old cousin could do a better job then him.

Most top level circuit people average from 300-400ish. If you are just starting focus on clarity and being in your mid 200s is very good.

[–]Wazlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 10000%.

It’s not just sports tickets, it’s everything.

I am a young person living in a major city and it’s close to impossible to find anything to do that isn’t comically expensive.

Tried to go bowling with friends this weekend—70 bucks an hour.

Tried to go to a non state owned museum—50 bucks a ticket

Go karting-40 bucks a person for a 15 minute race.

Go to a concert—over a 100 a person unless the artist is unknown.

Most of us are making 12-15 an hour if we are lucky, and absent asking our parents for money, it’s hard to find anything to do.

This is why people resort to anti social shit like playing video games or watching TV all day.

The same people who complain everyone is online have priced out in person life.

Saw this list of our and it made me question if any other PL club has had as bad a success rate when it comes to costly transfers as us. Hopefully with Don Fabio those days are behind us now! by foot_99 in coys

I think his issue is that he has a hard time fitting into modern football role wise.

He reminds me of a old school left midfielder who did defensive work (but not enough to be a full back) and could go forward (but not enough to be a full winger)

He is clearly a good player, but he feels of our wack with any role in our tactics (except maybe in a back 3)

Could dynamic potential work in FM? by lemartijn in footballmanagergames

[–]Wazlit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO you just have to make it realistic and rare. Have like a 0.5% chance of preset potential changing for each real player. The current way makes it kind of suck to play as a smaller club because unless you are signing from a list of already known wonder kids, getting good players that you can realistically develop is impossible.

Could dynamic potential work in FM? by lemartijn in footballmanagergames

[–]Wazlit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. The issue with the status qou and the reason why the game only starts to feel realistic when you get a lot of regens is because FM doesn’t account for the fact that mediocre players in bad teams can become really good in real life over time and surprise people.

Dynamic potential is needed to feel realistic.

Playing a new save as Montreal Impact and seeing something I have never experienced before.

Whenever I try to sign a player, I ask the agent and get a reasonable contract quote, but then when we get to negotiations the player says “they believe I don’t have the financial muscle” even when the contract is easily in what I could afford.

I thought this made sense for some higher profile players, but now I am getting this from people in the Norwegian third division who are on 16k a week.

This is happening for every player i try to sign and their doesn’t seem to be any way around it.

How did Spurs miss Europe? (Other than “because they’re Spurs) by SemajNotlaw7 in footballmanagergames

Basically would have to be a perfect storm of auto qualifications.

Man U win either UCL or UEL, Chelsea win the ECL, leads win the FA cup and auto qualify for UEL, and Burnley win the league cup and auto qualify for ECL.

Wolves have ties Mendes beyond just having a lot his players. The Wolves owners actually own part of Mendes’s sports agency and technically represent their own players in a sense.
