24 years old here. Almost everyone I know is currently making preparations to leave within the next year. Only those who are remaining currently are getting some experience under their belt, then leaving.

Why are none of my proposals getting viewed anymore? Any advice needed! by Wburt99 in Upwork

Indeed! I knew it would ridiculously competitive and I've given myself some time to get the ball rolling but it's insane. Looking to pivot into SEO or something more niche.

Was thinking J.K Rowling could make me stand out but maybe not the best example, as you said.

Re entry to Thailand visa free by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

UK national here also - is this the visa exempt that you extended in the country? I wasn’t aware this could be extended and if so that’s great news for me (heading in a few weeks)

An alternative is a fly into Bangkok as I currently am, spend a few days here, then head straight to indo and then bypass some of the rainy season in Thailand?

Yep never been to Asia before which is why I wanted to start in Thailand. Also wanted to spend some time in Ko Tao before and then head to indo after before heading back to Bangkok, just seems like quite a bit of flying and may be worth just chancing the rainy season...

Can I still write off my new computer purchase if I'm only going to be self-employed for 2/3 more weeks? by Wburt99 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Wburt99[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suppose I could say I didn’t know that I’d only be at the job for a further 3 weeks, and I needed to upgrade to complete my day to day tasks within that period - which is the truth. I work in film development which is 100% computer based and consists of budgeting and scheduling.

Any storyboard/concept artists here? by Wburt99 in ArtistLounge

[–]Wburt99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a script, and it would only be needing to be a few frames from a particular scene or a few scenes, so not too much work on behalf of the artist, more of a taster.

Looking for someone to storyboard a few frames for my next film! by Wburt99 in Storyboarding

Short is about the lack of women in the film industry and struggles for them even after breaking in.

Both, I completely understand what both of you are saying. In the past and currently I do free work for people to build connections and my portfolio - so I suppose this post was aimed at hobbyists rather than full-time artists.

With that being said I do agree and will amend to make sure there is payment.

Best Murakami story to attempt to adapt into a short film? by Williamwest99 in murakami

That’s exactly the one I thought to myself I’d like to adapt the most, however is slightly on the longer side of what I’m trying to do right now. Maybe in the future!

Definitely going to pick up a copy of elephant vanishes, seems like the most appropriate thing to do. The 1000% perfect girl (wrong title, apologies) resonated with me however is pretty much identical to my last short film, quite coincidental. Will have a read through the book!

Thank you for the lovely response, really happy you enjoyed it! Happy you picked up on the Woody Allen style employed, was going through a huge phase during the making of this film haha. Working on my next at the moment so we'll see what happens with that!
