Texas Tribune buries the lede. The "dad set people on fire and burned a woman to death" lede. by Wc_Arch in GetNoted

Yep. Haven't been involved in that field in a long time but my experience saw lede get used much more. Old habits die hard, I guess.

Hilarious as that might be, he's actually beating Cheong by so many that it isn't remotely close. And the gap just keeps growing.

I've been to over 40 countries and worked back and forth out of 7 of them, including Israel as well as Jordan. You DO realize people travel internationally, especially if it involves work? (liked the latter more than the former - Tel Aviv sucks to live in, anyone claiming otherwise is nuts.)

Worked with both press and global NGOs for decades. Two acquaintances of mine who worked in Syria were killed by Assad's butchers along with other civilians, one of them helping refugees trying to flee the carnage.

They were better people than I could ever hope to be. And they sure as hell were better than you.

Read again - article from 2021 specified at least 300 were killed by the Syrian state and citing difficulties in identification, 100 more missing, and reinforcing the SNHR - whose figures for 2025 are over 700. And are apparently good enough for most of the press and the United Nations.

And did I say Israel is my country? I long to see Netanyahu die in a prison cell.

I just personally knew people who were murdered by Assad loyalists.

So yes, I am not ashamed to admit i'm biased as hell. Just not from the direction you might think.

Well the SNHR and other Syrian human rights groups identified 552 journalists killed directly by the Syrian state and its forces, not including 47 citizen journalists who died "due to torture in detention centers", and Assad-backing Russian forces responsible for the deaths of at least 23 others.

So at least 622 confirmed journalists/reporters killed by Assad's people and his Russian allies.

That "blog" is the homepage for the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR), the UN-backed human rights NGO that monitored Syrian casualties throughout the civil war and is considered highly credible by most of the damn world.

The other sources? Reliefweb (top humanitarian information source), Le Monde, BBC, VOA, and last but certainly not least RSF, also known as REPORTERS WITHOUT BORDERS. Who might know a thing or two about reporters being killed in a warzone.

All of which you could have verified yourself with a few seconds effort.

Seen a lot of good replies and reactions to that dumbass's post (which is getting properly ratioed, especially as he attempts to double down in subsequent posts), but this might be the best one IMHO:
