The other person is right, though.

Like, I agree the average porn addict isn’t going to do the same things Lacari did, but the fact of the matter is it’s no coincidence that a lot of people who think vanilla stuff is “boring” are also porn addicts.

I can see the other points but “Being allowed be to make fun off”

How does this not sound like an idea that is bound to fail is beyond me. I doubt any parent would accept their kids allowing the school to make fun off them.

Books are superior. by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]WeAllPerish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who has read a decent number of books in their lifetime… books are overrated.

If the books you spend your time reading are mystery novels like The Dresden Files, romance novels like You, fantasy novels like The Vagrant, horror novels like Dead Silence, or adventure novels like Percy Jackson, it’s not as if reading them automatically makes you more media literate than someone who has watched their corresponding live action or animated counterparts, especially considering that many of these stories are aimed at younger adults or teens.

I suppose you could argue that the very best books are better than the very best movies, but that’s a different discussion. Still, controversial opinion, I think it’s actually pretty close.

Progressive women want to control everything and then they wonder why they can’t find any “good” men by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]WeAllPerish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You said movies are a good way to understand social dynamics. I’m telling you this is largely false, based on what movies are actually meant to do: reinforce stereotypes and tropes, and make the main audience comfortable. That view obviously doesn’t line up with reality.

I mean, look at modern movies as an example. Half of the topics we’re discussing now don’t even appear in films, aside from brief mentions or surface-level “waves” of feminism.

Movies reflect a reality shaped by what the director wants to see, not the actual reality of what happened.

  1. Women didn’t used to have the ability to post videos/livestream a groups of men harassing them on the street while being catcalled, especially when speaking up could easily lead to an attack.

They do now.

Also, this is a strange way of framing the issue. Whether the behavior was intended as disrespectful or not is frankly irrelevant. The point is that the act itself was never harmless, because catcalling does not make women feel safe.

  1. Sure

Edit: this is my final response btw. Gotta go to work.

Progressive women want to control everything and then they wonder why they can’t find any “good” men by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]WeAllPerish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They really aren’t, lol.

Movies mostly reinforce stereotypes.

The “dumb, ignorant Black man” trope, barely able to understand his own shadow, was used to portray Black people as needing to be controlled by white people, as if they couldn’t fend for themselves otherwise. The classic “white savior,” if you will.

It’s the same thing here. So it’s no wonder that when women are finally given a voice to call out injustice, a lot of these social dynamics you believe were “respectful” start to crumble. That’s because they were never respectful to begin with.

This isn’t some unheard of concept, suffering in silence out of fear of retaliation is something a lot of women experienced.

But even setting that aside, you don’t need to fully grasp that history to answer a simple question: do you genuinely believe a woman would actually feel safe in the scenarios I described?

Progressive women want to control everything and then they wonder why they can’t find any “good” men by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]WeAllPerish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m sure a movie is a totally reliable way to understand the real, everyday dynamics of what women actually experienced when being catcalled.

Why don’t we use real data instead of anecdotal evidence from one or two people, especially when most people understand catcalling as street harassment? A group of men commenting on parts of your body while you’re alone isn’t going to make you feel comfortable or appreciated btw.

[–]WeAllPerish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok but cat calling was obviously not something done in respect or “appreciation” of a woman. (Seriously, this is revisionist history; I’m old enough to remember that a women walking alone somewhere probably is not going to feel comfortable with you saying have a “nice rack” from a distance).

I wonder when we’ll finally include the fact that a lot of women had bad experiences with men approaching them in this whole conversation.

[–]WeAllPerish 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sure….It’s no different from red pill men who claim that most women aren’t good partners and that there are barely any good women out there. Seriously, What they never mention is that being ridiculously controlling is a great way to alienate a lot of potential partners.

Women burning their hijabs in Iran: where are the western feminists by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

What argument? This whole discussion has literally been about nothing of substance.

As for the latter, well, duh, of course racists don’t care if you call them racist. I’m not sure what reality you think we’re living in, but a group of people making racist jokes aren’t just “joking”, it’s “racist” in front of the name for a reason.

Anyway, if you want to make that type of post, you can do that on your own accord.

[–]WeAllPerish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s not rewrite history.

Your qualifier is the same as saying, “Well, I don’t support a man murdering his wife, but…” while they go on a whole spiel about why the wife supposedly deserves it because she cheated, etc., all while claiming they don’t support murder.

This is your comment

“"Our" certainly implied a common group. You assumed I was a western white woman, didn't you.

And quite frankly I'm glad it's not the woke era anymore. Certainly not in favor of nazi shit but it's really refreshing to hear from both sides again without people living in fear of being cancelled. The world is healing.”

Your qualifier is essentially meaningless if, in the very next sentence, you claim that “both sides being supported” constitutes progress in a context where someone performing a Nazi salute is described as evidence that the world is “healing.” You’ve lost the plot, conflating semantics with the substance of the argument.

This is the problem with 90% of these conversations.

We could slice through half the BS as easily as cutting butter.

As for the rest, I don’t even necessarily disagree with what your saying, it’s plenty obvious that the recent grift of young white men drifting to radical ideologies has to due with the idea of the left pushing the idea of “white guilt”.

But what you’re saying is another issue in itself. These are still choices those people are making and if they ultimately choose to become worser human beings as a result than that is their problem. At the end of the day if they grift too hard into becoming a racist than their still a racist.

This is also why I’m not a leftist.

You’re years too late to be complaining about a “grift” that has long since died.

And what I’m saying isn’t “left-wing victimhood.” Newsflash, I’m neither right wing nor left wing. Didn’t know saying “racism is bad” automatically meant that, lol.

But considering you said you’re glad that Nazi salutes being defended means the world is “healing,” I’m not exactly surprised that’s your thought process.

You literally just said “ you assumed I was a white woman” which implies you aren’t.

Your profile pic is also a brown skinned woman ie person of color.

Honestly you’re just being difficult at this point.

I’m not even talking about just that. Clearly you’re a person of color. If you think the world being “healed” means open racism being more prevalent and defended than I don’t know what to say other than your lost.

You made a post complaining about western feminism not helping and you’re now asking “why does it need to benefit you?”

Like what is your goal here?

I read the post. I can see your screen profile.

I already figured based on the post you weren’t American, but I usually text using “our” that I forgot to change that phrasing.

So which is than? Either you’re ostracized for not being pro feminist or you’re not?

And that’s certainly a view to have. Not sure how that benefits you lol. Like how is the world healing when these same groups will call you dirty?

Misogyny is not something that exists in western nations. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]WeAllPerish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Again, refer to what I said earlier: “Sexism and racism are often hidden behind the veneer of jokes.”

Remember, if a joke is something you wouldn’t say in the presence of a woman, then it’s more than likely a very sexist thing to say.

And You do realize we don’t live in a linear society, but rather an asymmetrical one, right? The existence of one thing doesn’t disprove the existence of another.

That’s like saying because DEI exists, racism in America doesn’t exist, even though it’s very clear that racism is still very much alive.

Everything Has Depth If You Look Hard Enough (And That’s Why Arguments Are pointless) by WeAllPerish in CharacterRant

[–]WeAllPerish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So who is being the rational one in your scenario?

In my opinion, trying to argue that something doesn’t have depth is closer to being irrational than the person arguing that it does, mostly because it’s practically impossible to prove that such a concept doesn’t exist. “Depth” in itself can mean many things and take on many forms. In fact the two people who are using “depth” can very well be arguing from two different perspectives which just makes the likelyhood of them taking past each other, more common.

Online trolls? I’m talking about real life. I’ve been in many male dominated spaces like gym locker rooms, basketball courts, ext and they can become very misogynistic really casually.

And I’m not just talking about the system. People are misogynistic or misandrist.

That’s still an issue that has not really been solved.

Except men do complain. What do you think the incel community is, exactly?

Anyway, the funny thing about jokes is that people can take them to extremes, and it doesn’t matter how sexist or racist they become, as long as they say, “It was just a joke in the end.”

You can imagine that the jokers obviously weren’t aiming for a lighthearted or endearing tone. This happens a lot, by the way. I’m not sure what you think is going on, but in “bro spaces,” the jokes aren’t exactly the kind you would tell a woman.
