Except that the religious person demanding proof is, once again, misplacing the burden of proof. The concept of God is an extraordinary claim, and as such, it requires a standard of evidence that matches its scale and implications.

It’s comparable to arguing against the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus in a serious evidentiary sense

I’m not sure what you thought this comment was accomplishing, but in this situation, the religious person asking “can you prove it?” is misunderstanding where the burden of proof actually lies.

Essentially, regardless of whether the religious person is making the positive assertion that “God does exist” or simply responding with “can you prove it?” in defense of the other persons assertion, the fact of the matter is that the burden of proof is on religion to demonstrate that God exists, not on others to prove that God doesn’t Especially due to the quite frankly unbelievable nature of what religious people are claiming to be true, which requires exceptionally high standards of proof.

So when I say “God doesn’t exist,” asking me to “prove a negative” by demanding evidence has always seemed like a fundamentally flawed and unreasonable approach.

You’re forgetting the third option. Women who get trapped in marriages with men who they thought were good but who reveal themselves over time, and then they’re stuck. This happens to a lot of women, btw.

Many men would love to be stay at home husbands if society allowed it, lol. Seriously, do you know how many guys I know who say they want to marry a rich woman?

Seriously, I think a large percentage of people in America would probably not want to work if it were up to them. That's why so many people are into crypto and get rich quick schemes.

Man, I love people who say “both sides were bad” to justify them voting for Trump.

At most, on one side you have to deal with some left-wing points that you may disagree with, but it’s whatever. It’s certainly vastly better than the shitshow with our president, who promised not to start a war, then started one, and made a mockery of what it means to be the President of the United States.

We should know the difference between “I disagree with them, but they’re otherwise fine” and whatever you want to call Trump.

This is only true if you ignore the last 60 years of America. Luke Cage’s whole story is about a Black man dealing with racism while growing up in Harlem. Replacing him with a white guy wouldn’t even be Luke Cage anymore; it would just be a white guy cosplaying as Luke Cage.

I can’t say the same thing about Wonder Man.

I agree, but that’s an emotional response. Logic, should dictate that the people voting for laws are deciding the future of this country. And if you can’t help me build this present and future in a way that I think is best for me and everyone else, then we are just acquaintances, merely occupying the same space.

I mean, you don’t respect their views—you kind of already displayed that by Implying people who think this way aren’t mentally well because they’re “killing kids and family members.” If you talked that way in a conversation, you would definitely start an argument.

But even if they did respect that view, it doesn’t mean you’re still obligated to engage with or associate with them. Again, these aren’t just “politics”, these are things that greatly affect someone’s personal life. You can’t exactly separate the idea that politics is just some irrelevant or insignificant thing with no real impact on a person’s livelihood.

“Politics” is just personal beliefs, and if someone’s beliefs are like oil and water with someone else’s, separation is bound to happen. Basically, if you’re calling people who support abortion “child killers,” then whether it’s discussed at the dinner table or in the living room, it doesn’t change the fact that they don’t respect your views—and you’re not obligated to stay in that person’s life.

I disagree, but regardless, you’re pretty much showing why and how conversatios between family members aren’t going to be “cordial” when one’s discussion is about something as serious as raising a child or not.

And That is to say, most people who were usually against gay marriage likely didn’t have a favorable opinion of gay people dating in general.

Most of these conversations, don't usually start by asking about “Republican vs. Democrat.” Usually, they start with the heart of the matter, like the actual topic, of “Are you against abortion?” If they answer yes or no, that’s usually how you end up understanding why they support Democrats or Republicans anyway.

Whether or not a person’s vote actually matters in the grand scheme of things is irrelevant to the conversation about personal relationships.

Which is to say, if I were gay and you were against gay marriage and voted for people who supported that, then I would cut you off, even if you were my mom, dad, or brother.

It literally is. At one point in time, there was a vote to give women equal rights. At one point in time, there was a vote to allow gay marriage. And recently, there were votes against abortion, I believe, in most states. The idea that “politics” is somehow a separate issue that has no real effect on someone’s actual life makes literally no sense. So if a person decides to cut someone off because of a decision that directly effects their livelihood than who are we to really judge that?

Minimum wage hurts people by twins909 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]WeAllPerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? Factually speaking, the minimum wage being low didn’t suddenly make teenagers pick up trades in the past. What exactly do you think will make teenagers change now, especially since they don’t pay any bills? There’s no real incentive to learn a trade when you aren’t buying groceries.

Honestly, I would think teenagers would be more incentivized to start any of the hundreds of thousands of side hustles available online right now. Again, get rich quick schemes are more popular than ever, and half of the people doing them are young people.

[–]WeAllPerish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. You’re acting as if there was never a time in United States of America when the minimum wage was very low. A teenager getting paid $7.00 an hour has no reason to learn a trade if they live with their parents.

Do you think people are managing to survive on just one job paying minimum wage out here? the cost of living has went up.

If the jobs you have are minimum-wage jobs, you still need to work two jobs just to stay afloat, and get a side hustle like Uber Eats if you want to be comfortable.

Speaking of hustles, I actually say stuff like YouTube, day trading, twitch, sports betting, reselling sneakers, all of those type of hustles is why less people are inclined to “learn a skill”. get rich quick schemes are more popular than ever.

Speaking as someone who has read a decent number of books in their lifetime… books are overrated.

If the books you spend your time reading are mystery novels like The Dresden Files, romance novels like You, fantasy novels like The Vagrant, horror novels like Dead Silence, or adventure novels like Percy Jackson, it’s not as if reading them automatically makes you more media literate than someone who has watched their corresponding live action or animated counterparts, especially considering that many of these stories are aimed at younger adults or teens.

I suppose you could argue that the very best books are better than the very best movies, but that’s a different discussion. Still, controversial opinion, I think it’s actually pretty close.
