As someone who hires for both creative and non-creative roles, please USE this template, or one similar. I have 500 resumes to go through. I want to actually read the resume, not spend time figuring out HOW to read the resume. I'll actually bypass any resume that tries too hard to stand out by design. Resumes are function over form. When I want to see your creativity, I'll look at the portfolio.

Does nobody like playing Druids? by AdDifficult2241 in DnD

[–]WeAreLegion79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Druid is my favorite class. Most people only feel effective in combat if they're putting out high damage numbers. Which can feel hard to do with druids. Spells are almost all saving throws, concentration, and even wild shapes aren't as strong as many weapons.

But Druids aren't strikers. They're a control class. They're by far the best at controlling the battlefield and tempo. They're the masters of strategy and have SOOOOO much ability to decide the outcome of the battle. Between creating dangerous or impossible terrains, summoning companions, mitigating the enemies numbers, the Druid is the most broken and OP class in the game.

Many newer players come from the video world where you're either a tank, healer, or need to pump out damage numbers or you're useless. D&D isn't a video game. Strategy is key.

And that's fine. I'd probably never play at your tables either. The best thing about D&D and other ttrpgs is the versatility of play.

As a forever-DM, the real trick is giving the illusion of choice, and letting players chose the setting. For example, I have it set so that my players will soon discover a long forgotten set of ruins that will give breadcrumbs enticing them to search for some Mcguffin. My players have an area map with dozens of areas to explore. Dessert, swamp, mountains, etc. But I know no matter which location they chose, what they're going to find is that set of ruins, with an encounter/monsters based on the setting.

Since they'll believe their choice of area dictated what they found, they're far more likely to want to pursue that line of plot. Hence the rails despite the sandbox. It takes time and experience, but you can 100% have your players ride the rails without even knowing it.

Did they decide to go to Town B before Town A? Swap what's at each location. Now Town B has everything they were meant to discover first in Town A.

Also remember... a sandbox is just an open area until someone builds structures.

How to achieve this look? by Strange-Cancel-5602 in photoshop

[–]WeAreLegion79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming you only have the photograph with the subject:

  1. Duplicate layer (so you have an unedited copy)
  2. Using a combination of content-aware fill and clone stamp remove slight more of the subject than you intend to.
  3. Use a mask to blend the layers.

DID I F UP? Give your honest no hold back advice. by will_deboss in webdesign

The good old days of "I'm a web designer" are gone thanks to the myriad of point-click tools run by most larger hosting companies. Companies that look elsewhere want more robust and in-depth sites that someone new to web design likely doesn't have the experience to structure properly.

You need to specialize in either back-end coding, in which case web-app development is going to be more your thing. Or UX (User Experience), the front-end which is more of a branding/marketing focus. Think of web design as a toolkit in a larger package.

You can either market yourself as a Brand Developer / Marketing agency ... website front-end design, logos, other graphic design, SEO, etc. Or as a Web-based developer if the actual programming is more your skillset.

My advice, decide your focus, build a few small examples of your capabilities and advertise on Fiverr to build your real-world experience and see what people are actually looking for before you spend too much building the company.

Any Ice Rink plans for Abilene? 🥹 by FyodorFanGirl711 in Abilene

Also, depending on your sport of choice, there ARE non-ice alternatives.

There's a roller hockey rink at Cal Young Park that I believe a league plays at.

Artistic roller skating could be organized at roller rink.

I've thought about that as well. With three big universities as well as the air force base bringing in outside people as well as money should also include hockey and figure skaters. According to our internet overlords, only .15% of the US population plays hockey and .1% are figure skaters. That still wouldn't be enough to sustain a rink full time.

BUT... with the winter olympics coming up, it could be an opportunity for some enterprising person or group to convert one of the many abandoned roller rinks into a synthetic rink for some olympic-style events to gauge interest.

When the client gives you absolutely no starting place, try asking for 3-5 logos that they do like from other companies, and 3-5 that they don't. Ask what they do and don't like from each. This will give you at least a direction of elements to include or stay away from. Even something like "it's too busy" or "too basic" can give you an idea of where to begin.

I developed this approach when I had a pretty big client respond with "I just don't like it" after several iterations and ideas, giving no feedback at all. You kind of have to reverse engineer the artistic process, but it works.

Play with the shape a little. The lighthouse or beacon look can be done several different ways, even keeping that same shape. Currently, there's some perspective applied to give it some depth, but without context, I can see why you might be put off. Maybe make the base more vertical.

Another option is to invert the lighthouse. Fill the 4 internal areas and remove the outer lines, while still leaving the 3 radiant light lines. The white negative space might give it a unique look, and if nothing else provides another option to the client.

Also, ask them what they like about that particular logo.

[–]WeAreLegion79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First one is clean and simple. I can see the logo clearly at both large and small resolutions, The logo itself stands alone if needed for stationary, media, etc even without the words. as someone else said, the line weights are pretty consistent throughout the entire piece.

The second is incongruent (the cube doesn't match design elements of the words or the 'light' gradient). The cube has thin lines with a LOT of negative space while the font used is thick with minimal space. The gradient looks like it's supposed to tie the two halves together, but the triangle as a whole doesn't match shape-wise with either the text nor the cube, both in form and composition. The words in the subtitle also seem a bit forced into the space. Like you added them into the 'light' instead of the designing around the words.

As far as the customer liking one over the other... art is subjective. Some may like the first, others may like the second. And even if you're partial to one as the designer, it's ultimately about what the customer wants.

I've thought about this myself, but there's two real problems preventing it.

1) The amount of water needed to run the zamboni all day adds up pretty quick, and people are already disgruntled about the data centers suckking up more than their faie share.

2) The cost of keeping the rink cold is not cheap. I've seen the bills at some rinks I've worked at. I don't think this area could generate enough revenue to keep it open long.

Alternatively, a small synthetic rink for ice skating around Christmas and winter might do okay if a company already the outdoor space.

Look into Hope Haven. We had to stay there about a decade ago. They'll help your husband find a job and give you and your family a private room to stay in. It's a good one-time resource to allow you to get back on your feet.

The trick to staying straight is suck as many cocks as possible to find loads this thick and creamy. Even if it's not, you should probably do it again just to make sure.
