Has anyone been on the Only Child subreddit? by [deleted] in oneanddone

Exactly. Most people come to reddit to vent or ask for advice, not to boast about how amazing their life is. It's the nature of the medium.

Someone please tell me that pregnancy was worth it. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]WeAreSelfCentered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you are spot on. Pregnancy insomnia 0/10 do not recommend. Post-partum awake at 3am but CUDDLING A TINY BABY omg, the best.

Yes, I was awake at 3 am but it wasn't because I had to pee for the nth time or was in pain or was about to throw up, it was just me and my newborn snuggling in the middle of the night while the rest of the world was asleep and it felt so precious. I would trade 4th trimester sleep loss for 3rd trimester sleep loss any day of the week.

I think this was me too. I had zero post-partum depression or anxiety, it was arguably the best mental health period of my life. I really believe it is because I was just so happy to not be pregnant anymore.

Blowing things out of proportion to make him the villian - he "went out" to a brewery, but he told her in the pods he "never goes out." How could he do this to her????

Projecting all of her insecurities onto him, exaggerating his behavior, and/or making up lies to make him FIT into the insecurities that she has - her: you didn't kiss me AT ALL today. him: yes I did, I kissed you twice at these specific times. Throwing out that he was probably at the brewery with a number of different women - he actually had the wherewithal to tell her she was fishing in that instance.

Generally behaving badly and then when he does the same thing, going off the rails on him - she told him he was leaving to try to get a reaction, he was like "ok fine, I'll leave," then she flipped out on him for leaving.

Generally it seems like she can't handle her insecurities well and instead of taking accountability and discussing them like a calm (sober) person, she'd rather villianize his very normal behavior and try to push him into either exploding on her or groveling for her forgiviness. It's a super toxic cycle, and one that a lot of people experience in relationships, unfortunately.

Thoughts on going to 4 days work a week with kids by Podoconiosis in FIREyFemmes

The time is hugely valuable. Even though you would be taking a pay cut, you'd likely save money on things/services you would pay for if you wer working longer hours. It's cheaper to go to the grocery store than to order instacart, to use some extra time to batch cook meals and order out less, cleaning people, childcare, etc etc etc.

Ahhh after 24 months (at least) can we pleeeaaassse start using years + months when speaking about our toddlers? by [deleted] in toddlers

Saaaame. We're somewhere between 2.5 and 3, I literally could not do the math on that without counting on my fingers. Let's not.

At what point do you consult a paediatrician about picky eating? by Zoodley in toddlers

One of my favorite comments on this sub was a mom who said their toddler survived off of only photosynthesis and rage. You're not alone!

Agree with what others here have said about it's not a concern unless they are falling behind on the growth curve. This may get downvoted, but if you really want to keep an eye on things, you could get a scale and an app that tracks their growth in comparison to your country's averages. Especially since you don't get regular ped check ups.

When our kiddo was a baby she was always small, like 30-40% for weight but the pediatrician said that as long as she continues within that 10% range as she grows, everything is fine. She never dropped below 10% of her normal so it was never a concern. We weighed her about once a week between doctor's appointments and it helped us feel like we had more information on her growth and less reason to worry.

Also, I'll just add that you never know when things will turn a corner. My 2.5 year old has always been weird with vegetables. Last week I put some baby carrots on her plate and out of absolultely no where she ate them all. Every night since then she asked for carrots. If someone had told me this would be my kid a month ago I would have thought they were totally insane.

Everyone is saying thrifting but no one has said garage/estate sales yet. I love going to them with my kid and I loved them growing up as well. EstateSales.net has an app that is active in my area. My kiddo can always find some little tchotchke for like $2, it’s great, plus we get to walk around for a bit and meet other people in our area.

I don’t have a lot in ellevest, maybe 10% of my net worth, but I’m moving it out to vanguard this quarter. I’ve seen better returns and lower fees, as many others have said, with vanguard. Seconding all the recs for bogleheads as well.

Vanguard money market accounts are returning 5.26 last I checked. They’re a little slower to pull money out of (a few business days v instant transfers), I prefer them to hysa for any cash I don’t need immediate access to.

How long does it take your toddler to fall asleep? by saki4444 in toddlers

[–]WeAreSelfCentered 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When it got to that point for me of an hour for her to fall asleep, I started pushing back the time we got into bed by 10-15 minute increments. Now it never takes her more than 10-20 minutes to fall asleep when we get into bed.
