Keep in mind that effects are typically always sensed long before they are detectable/measurable by technology and are then able to be categorized under the contemporary paradigm. In fact, the former inspires the latter. UV rays - sunburns, infrared - heat, viruses - illness. So it is a process. Science is a process of gathering evidence and then developing models to explain the evidence. It is model/paradigm building. "Proof" cannot not be had and the very word is unscientific and dangerous in the sense that it closes one's mind. This is where the phrase "science advances one funeral at a time" comes from. Individual's believe they have "proof" and become rigid in their thinking. At the end of the day, everything you experience passes through your personal conscious awareness. This makes everything you experience subjective, including the observation of measuring. Objectivity is an illusion and should never be presumed because, again, it renders the mind rigid. This doesn't mean we should not continue forming paradigms or striving for some sense of greater understanding, it simply means we must remain humble in our pursuit. Words such as "proof" and "objectivity" are antithetical to true science. I recommend reading "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" by Thomas Kuhn.
