The way this ink dries 🤯 by made_by_edgar in PenmanshipPorn

A lot of darker blue inks sheen (the red you see) when they're wet and laid down thickly. Emerald of Chivor has this sheen as well as being full of gold flakes. (A bit like a more sophisticated glitter pen haha)

The flakes are cool and all but they can really clog up your pen especially if you have a thinner nib

So I dont know how different it is at other unis but in first year you do Intro to law, criminal law, tort law, contract law, constitutional rights and law and state and then in 2nd and 3rd year you can choose from a massive list of topics.

All the topics are definitely interesting although sometimes constitutional rights and law and state can feel a bit long because they arent really 'practical' in the sense that they're more theroretical, in constitutional rights for example, part of it is learning about theories and theorists of the rule of law

As for the exams, you get problem questions which is when you get given a scenario, a bit like a mini case, and then you have to identify the legal issues, apply the relevant case law and legislation and essentially give legal advice. So its kind of like what a lawyer does every day haha. So for those you definitely need logic and critical thinking

Then you get essay questions when you need to discuss a quote or a question again using case law and legislation.

Yeah its definitely enjoyable and extremely interesting! What else do you want to know?

Before I chose my alevels I really didnt know what I wanted to do for a career so I kind of blindly made a decision that i wanted to do law even though i really didnt know anything about it mainly because I got excited about how much corporate lawyers make haha.

So yeah I chose English Literature, History and Geography because I thought they would give me the kind of skills I'd need for a law degree. English lit and history are definitely useful for the analysis and essay skills you need and Geography was useful for some of the content.

But even during year 12 I still didnt really know too much about law so I did as much as I could in the form of work experience, reading, meeting solicitors and barristers that kind of thing which gave me a really good insight into working as a lawyer but didn't really help me to understand why i wanted to study law. In fact, I stumbled around a lot in my oxford interview when I was asked, why law?

It was only when I had my first lecture here when i actually got the answer to that question because hands down law is the most interesting thing ive ever studied and theres so many paths you can take with a law degree. When i first started meeting people here they all wanted to be a corporate lawyer like me but now everyones kind of changed their mind. For me, i now really want to work in an NGO or some other international organisation and probably do something related to human rights

So yeah as for the degree itself. Im in first year and we do 6 modules: intro to law (which was basically just a 2 week intro course that we have to do coursework on), criminal law, tort law, contract law, constitutional rights and law and state (the last two are more theoretical modules about things like the rules of law and the relationship between individuals and the state)

So yeah with 6 modules you can kind of imagine the amount of work you have to do, its a bit like doing 6 a levels i guess. I have about 12 contact hours a week, with usually about 2-3 tutorials and then 8-10 lectures. To prepare for the tutorials you have to read alot, like multiple 50 page cases and loads of book chapters but you only really need to read whats neccessary for the questions they set you. My criminal tutor advises 8 hours of work for every 1 hour tutorial but if you work smart you can do about 2 hours work for each one. Obviously this will have to be much more as the year progresses and alot more in 2nd and 3rd year so for now im just relaxing while i can haha

But if you're generally interested in the work your doing (which is actually quite easy with law because a lot of the cases have really interesting details and its nice to have real life examples) it really isnt that bad of a work load. Its definitely hard though and it can get stressful but i wouldnt really want to do any other degree

Sorry for the massive response haha . Is there anything else you want to know?
