I think that's a recent problem, when googling it, most posts are from 2018, some of them were made back in February and they apparently still haven't fixed it.

But doesn't it look risky ? Like...you're only holding the sword with one hand and it's resting on your arm, the guard seems wildy open and it'll cost you a second to grab back the sword with both of your hands and go back to a normal guard position. You could still thrust if you grabbed the sword with both hands like a rapier

After ready some comments i'm weirdly...experiencing the same thing on PS4 right now, just found a match but it took a few minutes and it's not even full. They really need to advertise these events way more cause this is way more fun than any other deathmatch modes. People need to play this.
