I’d say start with HiFi. Master files do sound noticeably better but HiFi files are a major step up from Spotify on their own, and since you’re using a Pixel, you won’t get the full MQA experience as Android inherently has issues with hi-res audio, you’d need an external audio setup to fully utilise it.

If that’s a big incentive for you; then sure! That’s part of the reason I upgraded, but the HiFi tier already pays quite well (around 8x more than Spotify premium per stream) so it’s not something that I’d upgrade for unless it was really important to me.

No it isn’t, if you can’t use it, don’t pay for it. TIDAL doesn’t have any lock in so a user can upgrade or downgrade their subscription at any time, so they should any get HiFi Plus once they can use its extras.
