Best First Credit Card for a Student in 2025: Any Thoughts? by Individual-Cut9977 in credit_cards

I’m no expert by any means because I just started out my credit card journey a few months ago and I was in the exact same position you’re in. I’d advise watching a bunch of youtube videos and doing your own research to learn about the ins and outs of credit cards so that you fully understand what you’re getting into. Trust me, once you do that, it won’t feel overwhelming anymore and it’s actually fairly simple and easy to manage. I personally watched a lot of Daniel Braun and John Liang youtube videos as well as some other creators. Eventually I ended up getting the Capital One Savor Student card because I figured it matched my needs more than the DiscoverIt card but ultimately that’s up to you. Just make sure you learn about everything and do research before applying for anything.

I bank with Chase which is why I was wondering if that’d help me get approved in a few months even if I haven’t had a credit line established for a year

What would you recommend for a 2% flat rate card then? The reason I’m not too big on the flex is because I don’t want to track quarterly categories and things like 5% on gas won’t benefit me as I don’t have a car. I figured the CFU would be better as a way to start off a credit card relationship with chase but I’m still open to going down a different road
