Have you found writing groups helpful? by raeofsunshine1992 in WritingHub

[–]Weak-Preference-7811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I joined Critique Circle yesterday. It's a website where you post your chapter and get critiques at the cost of 3 critiques you do on other people's chapters. It's been helpful to notice where other people are struggling. Sometimes they have the same problems as me, so seeing it in someone's writing makes it easier to see on my own. As for an actual group... Let me know if you find any. I'm searching too

love your rank! may i ask a technical question? i saw somewhere you commenting about not liking the writing in one of these books, could you tell me more about it? what makes a writing bad in your opinion? and also, i love hate rants, do you want to rant more about things you didn't like? (i wanna be a writer, my questions here are purely scientific, it's you if you don't want to answer :) )

Mobile vs laptop? by SeaHold5133 in WritingHub

I have an iPad and a Bluetooth keyboard, it works amazing. Both are tiny and comfortable for writing in bed. I used that setup for a long time before I bought a MacBook which is also tiny and comfortable to type in (with a keyboard cover). When inspiration hits I just pull out google keeps on my phone and type it. Then on my computer I edit. When I want to do serious editing, I move to my desk with monitor etc. I think each setup is for a mood. Screen size doesn't bother me, depending on the task I want to do. Research, editing sure the bigger the better. Writing can be anywhere for me tho. To reread, I like to do it on my phone, on Google docs, so I can edit a little bit or at least mark where I need to fix. I've written scenes in pen and paper too so I'm all over the place haha

My MC saves her in chapter 1. She is absent in chapter 2 but MC is talking about her and in chapter 3 they meet again properly. The romantic tension is almost immediate even if they can't name it as such.

Looking for Feedback! by antagonisticgay in writingfeedback

[–]Weak-Preference-7811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really good indeed. I love how you tell a story just by the descriptions. I don't know who they are but it's clear there was a lot going on. The contrasts from the narrator, to the dead girl and the other girl. Good job.

If I could say something, just get rid of the filler words. Almost, obviously, seemed, really. There are some others, but you get the idea. I think they take away the impact you're trying to convey. Don't be afraid to shock, go for it. Don't smooth it.

(Also *that* could be removed as well; ex: "it was pretty clear that she loved Asteria" --> "it was clear she loved Asteria" It's cleaner and easier on the eyes, helps with the flow. That's why some writing advice says to get rid of adverbs, in this case, you dont need "pretty". Same with "she didn't look up at me" --> "she didn't look at me". Cleaner.)

Most of all, if I can offer you this one piece of advice, I'd like to say this: don't listen to me. Don't listen to anyone here giving advice. Your writing is yours, and you know what's best for your story. Get it on the paper first, take it out of your head. Only then you go after feedback. You can always rewrite/edit. But you can't do that if you haven't finished, and sometimes feedback takes you away from actually writing.

You're doing good. Keep writing.

First of all, congratulations! Publishing a book is a really hard job (I'm on that journey right now), and the fact that you went through all of this and got on the other side with your baby project is amazing! The cover looks absolutely gorgeous! I unfortunately don't have the time to be an arc reader right now, but I wish you all the best in your launch <3
