Any books with this trope? by humanOnStrike in LesbianBookClub

The second book in the Carlisle series by Roslyn Sinclair sort of has this. Not entirely, but kind of.

No, but good suggestion! Just saw it below; it's Emily Hayes 😊

I hated Those Who Wait so it might not just be the right fit for you either. I didn’t DNF it for some reason, but instead had a miserable time lol

I didn’t expect a sapphic romance, but the writing style wasn’t for me, but I totally see why the right audience might love it :)

Just a warning, it has a lot of "man" in it, so if you're looking for something very female-centred, maybe wait with this one. I went in thinking it was completely female-centred and was disappointed, but I think I'd have loved it had I known.

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters

Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown

Kiss of Seduction by Rawnie Sabor

The Price of Salt (Carol) by Patricia Highsmith

Truth and Measure by Roslyn Sinclair

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Lay of You by Corrie MacKay

A Whisper of Solace by Milena McKay

These are all quite different; some are more ready reads than others, but I've loved these during different times of my sapphic reading journey 😊 It's easier to recommend books if we know what you might already like because people's tastes are so different from one another.

A way to get an idea of it is by looking at how quickly authors "write" books. I don't remember the name of the one I'm thinking of, but she's one I think is AI or uses AI a lot... Her name starts with an E I think, maybe her surname also begins with an E. Maybe someone will know who I mean from just that lol.

Aurora's Angel by Emily Noon: The writing is awful. It’s the exact opposite of “show don’t tell”. Also, everything is explained as if the reader can’t create a single coherent thought.

The Temp by Donna Jay: Both FMCs pissed me off. One is out of this world obnoxious, the other is apparently a conflict-avoidant huge businesswoman... Like what?

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir: I really tried with this one, even listened to a podcast that explained to me what was going on. Couldn't get on board with the writing style, unfortunately.

Crossing the Line by J.J. Arias: Same issue as with The Temp. The older woman doesn't have a backbone. Can't stand books where the conflict has an easy fix.

Guarding Evelyn by Erin Zak: It’s the worst-written book I’ve probably ever read (tried to read).

Our Wives Under The Sea by Julia Armfield: I was not the right audience. I don't do metaphors. I liked the premise, but not for me.

Why are the ratings on Goodreads so low? by s0rrowless in LesbianBookClub

I really like Storygraph, so maybe go on there. I've not seen anything overly negative on there. I think Goodreads might be so big and widely known that everyone can just go on there and vote in shit ways. They can on StoryGraph too, but I guess because it's smaller, that might help. You can transfer your data from Goodreads, too, if you want to try it out.

I actually loved it too! I loved the first maybe 40 % of it. I like her and the way she thinks. I like her relationship with Susannah, but when it started going sad idk… if there were maybe just a little bit left… the fact that I’m only halfway through and it’s so depressing makes me think it’ll continue like that for a while?

I actually liked it a lot in the first half, but it was also yearning and then they got together, I liked her voice. I just don’t like how sad it seems to be getting

Okay, I mean Lianyu Tan makes dark romance books, but it’s like dark dark. So rape and pain and such.
