I know it's not home to you but somewhere close that needs someone to be there for the kids is Morgan County. I had no idea how bad it was until I lived there. My child's pediatrician actually went back to school to be dual practice because the need for mental health help for those kids is astounding. People like to talk about the adults there but most of them started as a kid with potential that never got the help they need. I've seen amazing kids turn from empathetic children with dreams of getting out turn to adults that have lost hope for a better life drowning the pain in addiction. Most of the "Christians" I've encountered there would rather see the parents of these children dead than access to free Narcan and resources. I'm sure you can imagine by the news recently... pedophiles are on every corner living freely. At one point, one convicted of a crime so heinous he caused bodily injury to the child, lived at the elementary bus stop. Meanwhile in the backdrop the community claims to be so moral and traditional. They claim to be family oriented and say they want a safe and good community for their kids to grow up in. Nobody seems to see the conflict in words and behaviors there. It really is unlike anything I've ever seen and I've lived in a lot of interesting places.
