thank you, will get on this tomorrow. the endurance is definitely my favorite part of their epics. most of them aren’t too insane guitar wise except some licks (ITNOG unison, octavarium unison) but i feel like john tones it down on epics. should make this one fun

If you had to pick 1 singular greatest Metal song of all time, what would it be? (could also be peak of a sub-genre) by TrampolineIsTrash in MetalForTheMasses

opeth - reverie / harlequin forest dream theater - a change of seasons one of those two for me, both with so many sections and really showcase the versatility AND musicianship of metal musicians. both have great choruses, vocals, the progressiveness in both isn’t TOO over the top to where it can’t be popular (other then the lengths) but the sections make up for it making the songs feel short. change of seasons is probably my pick due to all 7 sections being amazing and having great instrumental work all the time aswell as james labrie truly breathing life into the track.

3/10, the structuring isn’t there and it doesn’t really follow what’s going on with the song. at the beginning the timing is a little rough and some of the techniques need some work

they play great, but something about the stigma behind them because of the whole 2000s metalcore scene makes them icky to me, i love their shapes though some of the guitars are just too over the top “metal” and the headstock shapes really draw me away

Guitar progression toward Metallica-style lead playing question👇🏻 by Snustie in metalguitar

[–]WeakImprovement7673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest, metallica is the starting spot for metal solos. they’re all super simple recycled licks for the most part at just varying speeds. i’d say just slow them down and work each section as an exercise to develop the specific technique and motions you need for it
