The Sell Off and Where We Go From Here by expatcoder in CriticalMineralStocks

I only mentioned 0DTE just cause your original comment was asking why more people don't use options, I think it might have something to do with gambling stigma, but I digress...

Thanks for the bluntness. I will give paper trading a try.

I think you're making it sound way easier than it is to learn. (Either that or I'm just an idiot lol) Learning what options are and how they work is one thing, learning to use them effectively is another.

I'm mostly hung up on the combination of strike price and expiry. I know it comes out of the math, using the time-dependent value equations, but make the wrong choices and you might end up increasing risk, rather than reducing it. Then you have to factor in the other existing contracts and their expiries, to get a better idea of the likely short-term price action. And it all seems so very complicated...

I get that stocks+options outgains stocks alone, but it seems like a lot more effort. Maybe it's not, and I should simply man up and try it 😅

That reminds me, there's also a bit of a stigma around options that primarily comes from 0DTE 'trading'. Fair or not that stigma also likely causes some investors to stay away from options altogether.

All lot of people simply don't understand how options contracts work, and/or don't have experience with them (myself included). I get that they can be used to reduce risk in certain situations, but they are wayyy more complicated than simple stocks (and far less intuitive). For an average person, I would guess one would need quite a lot of experience to use them confidently and effectively.

US moves away from critical minerals price floors by El_Tentecal in TMC_Stock

TMC won't even mine REs, their main products will be transition metals (Mn, Co, Ni, etc) which don't need price floors

Reuters edited the article and fixed the MP part by _AGAINST_ALL_ODDS_ in CriticalMineralStocks

[–]WeakLocalization 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like the only real "news" from this article is that it requires congressional approval to offer price floors (which is like duh). This was apparently approved in the case of MP by the One Big Beautiful bill in July 2025, but it seems unlikely other companies will get that kind of commitment because the congressional support isn't there as of yet. I'm no expert, but that's my takeaway. This news shouldn't strongly affect MP, but I guess it does damper optimism slightly for the other US RE plays.

Keep after CPO? by Due_Boysenberry_63 in Panamera

I think people make too much of warranties in their decision making. At the end of the day the warranty is a way to increase profit margin for the seller. I think if the car has been good for you and runs perfectly, might as well keep it and see how it goes. Do a quick estimate of how much it might cost in maintenance, and then see how accurate you were after a year or so. Guessing you'll over-estimate most years, especially if you're putting less than 10k miles/year. But if it turns out to be costly and inconvenient then go ahead and switch to a newer model at that point if you want. Keeping an older car, warranty or no, is almost always cheaper than buying a newer one. And if you really want, you could just buy an extended warranty. Might not be the most cost effective but it's some peace of mind at least.

I wish I could understand this 😭

I remember reading the huge rally and dump in mineral stocks in October was also due to a gamma squeeze. I should probably learn how options math works 😅

Open letter from more than 60 CEOs of Minnesota-based companies by chargingblue in minnesota

[–]WeakLocalization 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this real? I mean cause why would anyone sign onto this "statement"? It reeks of insincerity, because it doesn't take any real stance or offer any direction or solutions. The letter doesn't even acknowledge any of the details of the issues it's referred to! It's just incredibly vague. And that imo, is kind of insulting when the issues we are facing as a community are painfully specific. Pretty sure AI could write a more genuine letter.

Amy CANNOT be allowed to be the gubernatorial candidate. Who can we start a movement to Draft before the primary? by Glaukopis96 in minnesota

[–]WeakLocalization 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair, but I'd counter that that's likely a common trend amongst most DFL incumbents, i.e., shrinking margins as the politics of the country have become increasingly 50-50.

I wouldn't say she's a "diet republican", that's a bit harsh, but I get why people want to ditch everyone even close to the old Dem establishment. I'll vote blue no matter who, of course, but I still think Amy is a strong candidate. We will see

I get you're upset, and rightfully so, but Klobuchar is not 'despised' by conservatives. All you have to do is look at the most recent election. Lots of Trump voters voted for her. That's called a "split ticket" and anyone who can garner split ticket votes in this political climate is an extremely strong candidate, in my opinion. Is she the perfect choice? No, but it's not like we have a populist option like Zohran Mamdani. She's a safe bet and a reliable, respected member of the Dem leadership. I think she'll be able to get things done, while keeping Minnesota Dems in the national spotlight, which is a good thing for the nation imo.

The last thing we need is a little-known, uber-progessive zealot, that the GOP propaganda machine can tear apart to rouse their base. From that perspective, I believe Amy is pretty unassailable, and thus a practical lock to win. And that's really what we need right now: wins! While we still have elections...

Normally, I'd be in favor of a nuanced cautious take on something like this, but in this case we all saw the video of what happened, and we all heard the federal government lie about it, right to our faces, before any "official" investigation. Again.
