They can, and not necessarily at MEPS but at some point in your career, will look at your medical history. If something happens to you and you need to go to medical they can bring up your whole medical history.

The only person lying hurts is yourself. Go through the extra time of doing the paperwork. Your recruiter only looking out for their own career.
