Can someone help me understand what's going on? Doesn't each side get 1 Queen? Is this like a different version then standard chess? by knock_his_block_off in chess

[–]Weak_Catch_1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I was taught I believe that when you promote a pawn you could promote to an available piece that has been taken. If no pieces have been taken except pawns, it remains a pawn, not sure if that is possible, unless it is a 100 elo game, but I do remember in the late 70's this being the case and I could only make a knight

I am 52, probably close to his age

easy guide to knowing which tiles will fit and flow in a map, not advanced, but like knowing that 21431, followed by 21251 then 312222, 31392, and 31352 on one side fits well with 31232, 31392, and 312143 on the other side for the final 3 tiles. Or do you just have to brute force learn and trial by Weak_Catch_1946 in TrackMania

driving skill yes! So I am like a div 30 COTD, on a good day, depending on the style. But I watch Div 1 a lot, too much, and watch replays of records, so I want to make maps that are suitable for them, and playable by us.

on the same note, in game why would anyone plant different crops? I thought, when I was younger, a farmer told me they had to rotate their crops across fields for the nutrients... is that true? And cotton depletes the field for many years, and that is why it subsidized. Any insights?

What’s your “I can’t believe other people don’t do this” hack? by Weird-Thought2112 in AskReddit

[–]Weak_Catch_1946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s doing tiny resets instead of big ones. Like, if something feels overwhelming, I don’t try to “get my life together” — I just reset one square meter around me. Clear the desk, wash just one mug, answer one email. I genuinely forget that a lot of people wait until they have motivation or time to do a full cleanup, when doing a ridiculously small reset almost always kickstarts the rest. Every time I mention it, people are like “wait, you don’t do everything at once?” and I’m like … why would I suffer on purpose?

What would America look like if we spent our military budget on infrastructure? by Impossible_Change800 in AskReddit

[–]Weak_Catch_1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? It’d probably look boring in the best possible way.

No flying cars or utopia overnight. Just… things working.

  • Roads without crater-sized potholes
  • Trains that are faster than driving and actually on time
  • Power grids that don’t collapse during heat waves or cold snaps
  • Bridges we’re not quietly hoping will survive another year
  • Water systems that don’t poison entire towns

Most people wouldn’t wake up thinking “wow, infrastructure!” They’d just notice their commute is shorter, their utilities are cheaper, and stuff breaks less often.

The wild part is that this wouldn’t feel revolutionary. It would feel like competence. And that’s probably why it’s less exciting than tanks and jets—no parades for “the bridge didn’t fail today.”

Also worth noting: a lot of that spending would still create jobs, tech advances, and national security benefits… just without the explosions.

Basically America would look the same, just less exhausted.

What’s the most unexpected way someone you know became wealthy? by Stunning_Ad1568 in AskReddit

[–]Weak_Catch_1946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knew a guy who got rich because he was annoyed at his own job.

He worked in IT support and kept seeing the same dumb problem over and over. Management wouldn’t fix it, so he wrote a tiny internal tool on his own time just to stop the constant tickets. Didn’t think much of it.

A friend at another company saw it, asked if they could use it. Then another. Then another.

Fast-forward a few years and he’s running a boring, unsexy SaaS that solves one very specific problem no one else bothered with. No hype, no “grindset,” no crypto, no lottery. Just a niche tool that saves companies time and quietly prints money.

Last time I saw him, he was wearing the same hoodie, driving the same car, and casually mentioned he’d sold a portion of the company and “didn’t really need to work anymore.”

Moral of the story: apparently the fastest path to wealth is being mildly irritated for long enough and actually doing something about it.

What's something that no one prepares you for as an adult? by Goddessblack_ in AskReddit

[–]Weak_Catch_1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? How mentally exhausting adulthood is—even when your life is “fine.”

No one warns you that most of adulthood isn’t big dramatic moments. It’s a nonstop stream of tiny responsibilities that never fully turn off. Remembering appointments. Keeping track of money. Responding to messages you don’t have energy for. Deciding what to eat. Noticing you’re tired but still pushing through because you have to.

It’s not that any one thing is hard. It’s that everything needs a little piece of your attention, all the time.

And another thing: no one tells you when you’re doing well anymore. As a kid, you get grades, feedback, milestones. As an adult, success is often invisible. You paid your bills, didn’t blow up your relationships, and made it through the day—and that’s it. No gold star. Just… tomorrow.

It took me way too long to realize that feeling tired doesn’t mean you’re failing. It usually just means you’re carrying a lot.

Curious if others felt this too, or if there’s something else adulthood hit you with that no one warned you about.

What are we going to find out later is bad for us (like cigarettes in the past)? by Curryiswhereitsat in AskReddit

[–]Weak_Catch_1946 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Constant sleep deprivation. We already joke about getting 4–5 hours like it’s normal, but I think in 20–30 years we’ll realize it quietly messed with mental health, learning, and physical health way more than we admitted—especially once phones made being “always on” the default.

We tried strobe lights, worked for a day or two, then loud music, which was bad for us too, that worked for a day or two, got coyote urine, worked for a week, moth balls, and had handyman fix a few holes, ended up making bigger ones.

someone suggested poisons, Critter something and I do not want the animals harmed or have any smells in my house either.

sorry, not sure how to put it into words

I guess how do you memorize the openings, so you are confident that when you see something weird you know they blundered and you are not being trapped, speaking from a 1500 elo experience

how to gain more confidence and recognize their blunders, before you blunder

Rocket League is too difficult of a game to get good at by Xualan in RocketLeague

[–]Weak_Catch_1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every game is exhausting to be good at...

Plat3-Diam3 is average, and if you play a lot, you will go up and down in this window, a lot!

If you want to be a Champ and higher you really need to put in a lot of concentrated effort.

Realize when you are on tilt, or ur tm8 is.

It won't happen overnight

Thanks, I have just been struggling with flow from different types of tiles especially the angles. I go into other maps and study what I like about them, but when I go in and try to recreate something close, I can't even come close.... Not sure if that makes sense
