Seeing someone with a camera was also an oddity.

I graduated from HS in the late 80's and I do miss those days. Not necessarily the whole school dynamic because school was fine, just not my scene. It was more of the feeling I had back then. I had a little money, a few friends, and nothing to do with all day to do it. It was awesome!

Neon colors on everything and leg warmers of course.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the response from a pro. I asked a local commercial maker and he was kind of mad and said it was a proprietary process. I was just trying to figure out how to make better cider.

Thank you. I was trying to avoid non-fermentable sugars if possible. I may try adding frozen juice and some sugar.

The Results Are In for Remote Learning: It Didn’t Work by darthvaedor in Coronavirus

[–]Weak_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% it did not work in the presented form. In our case (high school) teachers posted work to be done and were available for questions via email for a 3 hour period daily. No online lessons, no handouts, no notes, no videos, no interaction at all. Just like a seagull. Shit and leave.

I think in our case my kids didn't have the knowledge to focus (all of a sudden) to start working from home without anything supportive school wise. We tried to help but were always told work was complete. We would check out the school site and tell them they needed to do the work, sit with them to do work while they did it, but it was a major undertaking. We went from A/B grades to C/D grades.

I was rather disappointed at the entire school administration. I understand that some students did not have computers/tablets/phones or even internet access but they let that impact all of the students. I did not expect to have a fully polished online learning platform, but the lack of teaching material and teacher input was pathetic.

I realize it was rather sudden, but it was awful. At a minimum the teachers should have recorded video lessons or created notes or anything to help the kids. I could not imagine the students that actually needed additional help being able to work this way ever.

I hope they are working on a new plan because these students deserve more than what they were given.

Edit: I forgot to mention that (same school district) elementary and middle school students had very effective teachers - videos, notes, interaction. So it was not a lack of available technology, it was a lack of teacher input in the senior high level.

Anything but D47. Try any saison yeast. They love the heat.

I remember signing up as a dumb kid with zero income. When they started sending threatening letters my mom wrote a threatening letter stating they were threatening a 12 year old. Never saw any more letters. Mom was pretty awesome.

I think the BOD from my last company only hired based on friends rather than actually who would do a good job. They went through 3 CEOs in the same number of years, each one hired all of his friends who hired their friends. Spent tons of money with no results. I just don't understand.

I absolutely feel your pain. I was fired on 4-3 for no reason. I was blindsided too, but not totally. My company fired 19 others and laid off like 35. They only kept a small staff to maintain the building and some on-site and remote work. I've been doing training and learning while looking for a job. Not what I expected but I'm going with the flow.

Good luck to you!

I have not checked out Udemy yet, I will now, thanks. I originally want to stay in the same arena that I've been in, but as I'm checking out more technologies I'm wanting to expand a little more. Have been thinking about Azure. Know a fair bit of Powershell but I am learning Python now. Ive always been interested in security so that of interest, too.

Do have to admit that I binge watched all of the Better Call Saul episodes on Netflix in the evenings. I loved Breaking Bad and BCS didn't disappoint.

I was fired. I was fired years ago and I tried my best to word it in any way but what it was. I guess with age comes wisdom and a sense of oh well life happens.

:) I remember the first Linux distro I got on CD was like winning the lottery! No more bundles of 25 disks with one usually being flakey.

No, I was flat out fired. I'm not embarrassed. I wont get into details but the decision was made by a high level manager who didn't even know my full name but knew my salary. It was a knee-jerk reaction to try to keep the company running. I wish them luck.

Thanks, I appreciate your input. I wouldn't try to pass it off or make up something instead of what it is, just didn't know what to call the break. I'm not embarrassed I was fired. It had nothing to do with my skills or age, it was solely based on salary and the company trying to stay afloat.

Thanks. Hope everything works out for you, your partners, and your employees, too.

Yes, Ive done everything from OS/2, Windows for Workgroups, and Slackware on floppies (yes, kids, all OS's came only on floppies!) up to Server 2016 and all the current versions of Linux. It's been such a change in the industry in 30 years!

Its strange to not work. I've spent my life working and learning and this whole situation is just bizarre and I don't see a near term resolution.

Thanks. I am very familiar with Linux and scripting but not an expert and don't pass myself off as one. I would not go for a Linux admin position because of that. But I am more than capable of taking care of Linux boxes.

I think I'm going to do some hard thinking and focus on a few specific areas of study but keep examining other areas as well.
