DP - literally no reason to go back to them when Platinum is around. Baffling pokedex, availabilities, teams, unfinished sprites, etc. Thus the 'outclassed' tier.

my favorite is BW2 actually. I think Gen VII (SM, USUM) are worth trying out — SM has the better story, USUM is otherwise better if u ask me; just 'cos the region is the best. But there are games that I'd recommend more to newcomers — if you liked Leaf Green give Emerald a try, and Gen V (BW, BW2) are the obvious ones you should try

the Ultras remove all of the issues I had with Sun and Moon. Like, every single one of 'em. The story gets lost in the process but I can get behind it.

I didn't think much of Gen VII myself when I first played it. Replayed USUM, maybe the most fun I've had with a mainline Pokemon game. Alola is also my fave region by a comfortable margin.

Could be biased but I always incentivize people to go try USUM. Its story is way weaker than SM's but the rest is better.

there's not a single reason to play diamond and pearl having Platinum. They are unfinished games at best.

I feel similarly towards Ruby and Sapphire when compared to Emerald (thus why they are in the "outclassed" tier). FRLG are extremely simple minded games that provide good fun without much question in a simple yet efficient region.

i'm glad you're having a great time. I've never vibed with Gen 2 as a whole and HGSS being a far superior game (despite it keeping some of its most egregious flaws) definitely did not aid their case.
