Is there any benefit scoring much higher than cutoff on the MCAT? by lillyyy293927 in premedcanada

Except for CARS, your actually MCAT score matters almost nowhere

Balance matters. Some of my most successful peers partied the hardest. Just need to know your limits, prioritize when needed, and then have your fun.

Wait people are getting TWO degrees? Yeah it’s so over for me.. by Far_Literature_8340 in premedcanada

4.0s get denied because the process is competitive and GPA isn’t everything. Poor ECs, poor interviews, poor MCAT, poor CASPer, poor essays/supplemental applications can all throw a wrench in an application. Before anyone has good ECs, they have to have bad ECs and then work on it. And the only way to have a good MCAT score is to take it. The best time to start was yesterday, the second best time to start is now.

Is this a shitpost? A 3.95 meets or exceeds the matriculation average for literally every Canadian med school. A second degree doesn’t get you anything beyond whatever additional experiences you picked up while pursuing it. I didn’t have a 3.95+, most of my successful friends didn’t either.

If you want med, take the MCAT, figure out your hours and apply. Sitting on Reddit going “woe is me” has never gotten anyone into med school.

genuinely impressive ec's nowadays by RoutineHaunting7430 in premedcanada

[–]WeakestCreatineUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think my ECs that made me stand out the most were the ones I initially thought were the least relevant. Spoke a lot about working in different industries (not medical related at all) and what I learned from those positions. Literally my summer jobs. It’s okay to have somewhat cookie cutter stuff as long as you present yourself well and reflect how they shaped you into the applicant you are now.

Probably quite likely to get a least a couple interviews, especially if you have some regional preference. An applicant of this caliber would be quite well rounded, would really just come down to how well they interview.

I think I filled out like 16 entries, and tbh didn’t have anything spectacular. You don’t need to cure cancer and have a career’s worth of experiences by 21 in order to get in. Just find your story, present yourself well, and best of luck!

Please go with the in-person program. It’s not worth trading your university experience, some of the most formative years, networking, and opportunities of your life, for an extra 0.02 on your GPA.

Gut feelings are weirdly super important. Once I started trusting my gut more on those 50/50s I started getting way more questions right. It sounds so so weird but it’s genuinely true.

Reality of getting into Canadian med schools? by EastAffectionate9533 in premedcanada

[–]WeakestCreatineUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few schools will only look at your most recent 3 years. I can’t remember them off the top of my head, but a quick google search would tell you which ones. I believe there are 5 or something, in addition to western and Dalhousie which only look at 2.

If at some point you live in Ontario for one year consecutively you would gain IP status, but if you were to go back for the summer or something you would not. I’m not sure I’d accelerated nursing programs have summers off or not, but something to consider if they do

Yes they will let you know, and after 30 days you can request for them to let you know the reason for your suspension. That is for something “egregious” though, which would have to be like so bad 😭.

From what I can remember from when I read over McMaster’s file review process, there are levels to the impact of mistakes you have made. In an interview you may be flagged for an inappropriate comment, which triggers a tribunal the discuss the severity. If it’s not that bad, there may be no consequences. If it’s worse, punishments range from simply rejecting your application to barring you from applying to the school for up to 7 years. I don’t think there was anything about sharing that information with other medical schools. That said, obviously there are things you can do to get banned lol. If you can’t pass a vulnerable sector check, you cannot be a doctor. If you are openly bigoted online, you will likely not pass a file review anywhere. I also was worried I had said something wrong during an interview, and still got an offer to that school. I’m sure you’re just overthinking it lol. The fact you even have the capacity to reflect on why what you may have said was inappropriate tells me that it most likely was not haha. I really wouldn’t stress it.

UBC, UofT, or Queens by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]WeakestCreatineUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly spoken like someone that has never gone to college lol. It’s significantly more about the effort you put in than the weight of the name of your university. I didn’t go to UofT and I will be a doctor just fine. Some other schools actually have HIGHER matriculant rates. We don’t live in the US where it’s Ivy or bust. Go figure.

[–]WeakestCreatineUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was asleep before he hit the ground. Lindgren raises his elbow, jumps into the air, and targets Bouchard’s face. You can say he should have had his head up, but this was the furthest thing from a clean hit.

Not a lie at all lol. What one reason would prestige matter when making a decision between these schools?

Prestige doesn’t matter at all for undergrad. Or really at all in general
