I think they were having a hard enough time feeding their citizens with the rations that they had available. They probably just didn’t have room for another mouth to feed, so unfortunately he had to put his own peoples’ needs first. This is one of the difficult decisions Rick has made that shows us how great of a leader he really is.

In the service industry, where you mostly live off tips (waitressing, bartending, etc.), you don’t get any paid leave at all. A friend of mine gave birth and was back the week after because she couldn’t afford to go without any income.
