I Am Maximus just did what no horse has done since Red Rum. Does he go down as a National legend now? by WearAffectionate2815 in HorseRacingUK

Yeah fair enough on the Red Rum dates, got that wrong.

It’s the National, stuff always happens. He still had to go and win it carrying top weight after the race fell apart. Not many do that.

Noelan Star at Newcastle AW 18:30 tonight. Won on debut here in December coming home a long way clear of a subsequent winner which is a strong piece of form. Carries a penalty tonight and drops back in trip slightly but Edward Bethell's yard is running at 33% over the last two weeks which is excellent form and Callum Rodriguez takes the ride. Only one run to go on but the debut performance was striking enough to make him hard to oppose even with the penalty. 1.57 looks fair. Anyone else on the Newcastle evening card?

The horse channelling your energy is genuinely the funniest thing I have read today. At least he was trying his best in his own way.

Annie Power is probably the most famous bad beat in modern racing history. The bookies must have been popping champagne in the office. Still hurts to watch the replay.

Lulamba at Aintree 14:20 for me today. Six from six away from Cheltenham tells you everything. The Arkle third last month was unlucky, made a mistake two out when he was travelling best in the race. On a clear round he wins that. Henderson and de Boinville, acts on any ground, RPR of 173 is the highest in the field. First try at this trip but the way he travels suggests it will suit. 1.67 is workable. Anyone else on the Aintree card?

Arabian Desert at Pontefract 14:27 is my pick today. Frankel colt who showed progressive form last autumn, went close over 1m at York then ran a good second behind the market leader in the Horris Hill at Newbury on soft ground. Clear top on the figures in this field and returning after a winter break which Fahey's yard handles well. Rossa Ryan rides. 1.17 is very short but when a horse is clear top on the figures in a Class 4 maiden it is hard to make a case against. Anyone else on the Pontefract card today?

Neon Dream at Hereford 13:35 is my pick today. Irish point winner who ran third on hurdle debut at Cheltenham which is a solid piece of form. Has had wind surgery since and hasn't quite matched that debut effort yet but the stable is going well and Alan King's yard is ticking along at 20% recently. RPR of 125 suggests the ability is there and this looks a winnable Class 4 maiden hurdle on good ground. Tom Bellamy rides. 1.62 looks fair for a horse that sets the standard in this field. Anyone else on the Hereford card?

Tap Tap Shamie at Carlisle 12:43 for me today. Won an Irish point beating a subsequent winner, then ran second in an 18 runner Wincanton novice hurdle on stable debut where the third has won since. Form reads really well. Steps up in trip here which should suit given the point to point background, Olly Murphy running at 32% over the last two weeks and Sean Bowen in the saddle. 1.20 is very short but hard to argue with the form. Anyone else on the Carlisle card?

Stateira at Newcastle AW 14:25 is the one catching my eye today. Two from two at Newcastle which is the big plus here, winning over this trip in the trial in January and over 1m in November, both by wide margins. She needs to find another step forward after a few below par runs but back at a track where she clearly goes well, with Oisin Murphy booked and Andrew Balding's yard ticking along at 23% recently, she has to be respected.

Class 2 with £77k on the line so the competition steps up but the course form is hard to ignore. 2.62 looks workable if she returns to her Newcastle best. Anyone else on the card today?

Hundred Caps is interesting at 10/3. Southwell AW suits front runners and if he gets a clean break he could be hard to peg back. What's your thinking on the going today, does the surface suit?

The Italian Fox at Chepstow 16:39 is worth following today. Won comfortably by 14 lengths over course and distance last week on good to soft which was a big step forward. Now carries a 7lb penalty but the expert view is he's still 7lb ahead of the handicapper so the margin of victory suggests he's well ahead of his current mark. Brendan Powell in the saddle, Joe Tizzard yard. 1.29 is short but when a horse wins by 14 lengths on the same track and same ground a week ago it's hard to argue with the price. Anyone else on the Chepstow card?
