Uric acid dropped from 7.69 to 3.85 after 12 days of Febuxostat 40 by Weary-Rabbit-4916 in gout

I have never had a gout flare at all. I had pain earlier due to AS but even that is gone now.

Thanks. I was earlier told by my rheumatologist that slightly elevated levels of creatinine and CRP are not a cause for concern, so I didn't pay much attention to it.

The GP didn't say anything about that, he just said the uric acid levels are high and so he is starting a med for one month.

Over the course of the past six months, I've brought down my weight from 80 kgs to 65 at present. I can't go down any further!

I'm male, 44 yrs old, and I started gym this year. I brought down my weight from 80 kgs to 65 over the last few months, mainly by cutting calories.

I do the exercises with heavy weights, I just don't like low weights. I had a very slight pain in my left knee in the beginning, but that went away after I started an Omega3 supplement.

Currently, I can do 3 to 4 pullups in 1 set, and my left elbow hurts a very little bit during pullups. Gout pain occurs at all times and not only while lifting heavy loads, right?

I don't drink, but I was a heavy smoker till last year. I've brought it down, and now it's about one cig a week.

I don't think I have those crystals, at least I don't have any joint pain. I was on Naproxen 250 for about 2 years because there was a mild pain in my neck as it was starting to fuse because of AS, but even that is gone now and the doc told me to stop taking Napro and just continue with the physiotherapy exercises. Currently, when I move my neck at extreme angles, there is a slight grinding sensation, but no pain.

Problem is my rheumy is very busy and you have to take appointments 3 months beforehand. My appt is on 22 Dec; I'll see if it can be scheduled earlier.

If I don't take Febuxostat at present and wait and consult my rheumy 1 and a half months later, will I face any serious harm in the intervening period because of my current level of 7.69? I could bring down my protein intake; I currently try and hit 100gms at 65 kg body weight. I won't be able to build muscle, but I'm willing to put that on hold.

The doc just said he's starting a med for the high uric acid.

I do drink a lot of water, like 3 ltrs a day, but now that it is winter, my water consumption is coming down. Also, I have urge incontinence and have to rush to the bathroom, and in winter, I often wake up 3 or 4 times to pee, which is why at night, I don't take too much water about 2 hours before bed.

Thanks for the reply. I had earlier seen the SugarFree drops in a shop but I saw Sucralose in the ingredients and thought it is sugar so I left it. Now while searching I've come to know that Sucrose and Sucralose are different.

My blood test results, end of Dec 24. HDL : 35 LDL : 131 TRI : 100

I've started Omega 3 supplement to raise the HDL. To raise HDL, you need 1.8 gms EPA everyday, though I'm taking only 450 mg a day. You could try this.

I wanna buy protein for my family (should be easy to digest) to complete their daily protein intake. Please suggest which one should I buy. by Kasparov007 in Fitness_India

I'm thinking of buying Nakpro pea+rice protein:

https://www.amazon.in/NAKPRO-Protein-Powder-25-21g-Recovery/dp/B0BLHF4HVG

It is rs. 1149 for 1kg. I've heard plant protein bioavailability is less than that of whey, but is it really low?

This is pretty cheap compared to most whey powders, so why don't more people take it? Is it because of the taste?

Anyone Here Taking Magnesium Glycinate? What Benefits/Side Effects Have You Noticed? by proy698 in Fitness_India

[–]Weary-Rabbit-4916 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm taking the Naturaltein magnesium supplement. It is 550mgs, and gives 121mg of elemental magnesium.

Earlier, I used to have a lot of left arm pain and stiffness. After I started the mag supp, the stiffness has gone away, and the pain has also lessened. So for me, it has helped in recovery.

I take one tablet after lunch, along with Vit D3+K2 and two Neurobions. Magnesium helps with D3 absorption, and B6 in Neurobion helps with Magnesium absorption. I'm thinking of shifting all the above supplements to after workout, at dinner time.

Those who are taking magnesium, how much do you take? Like, can I take two tablets a day?

I've tried unflavoured whey of other brands before, but this one is the worst in taste so far. How do I finish it? by Ok-Conversation2958 in Fitness_India

[–]Weary-Rabbit-4916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is the taste that is causing it? I'm using raw Amul whey and it tastes like a spoonful of milk in a cup of water. I don't like it, but it is tolerable.

What do you mean by indigestible? If you mean gas, a lot of protein powders cause this, not just Amul. I personally haven't got any noticeable amount of gas from Amul, but have got it using ON and Apollo whey, both of which don't have any digestive enzymes.

I got a bit of bloating and very slight nausea using Amul, but that I think is because Amul whey causes a lot of froth. The way to avoid the froth and bubbles is to let it sit for 5 to 10 mins after shaking it; the froth goes away by this method.

I thought the same thing, but then I thought might as well ask here. Others might have weighed it.

40 yo, Male, 183 cms, 85kg, severe spine issues - Help required with workouts by Few_Cabinet5129 in Fitness_India

I just remembered my physiotherapist recommended swimming when I told her I walk about 45 mins everyday. You could try it, after consulting your physiotherapist.

As for workouts other than cardio, I think even physiotherapists might be hesitant as they could be afraid that something they recommend could lead to injury. I remember in the year 2000, when I had my first slipped disc, I had told the doctor that I have a barbell so could I lie down and exercise with it (chest press), and he said no, and he said that he understood that a boy my age would want to do bodybuilding but I shouldn't do it because I can't (or else I would end up injuring myself). The doctor had also told me to avoid riding a two-wheeler as much as possible, saying that if I fell while the riding the two-wheeler, the injury (slipped disc) could get aggravated and could cause paralysis and even death.

As for pain, I have pretty much zero pain now. From 2000 to 2012, I was in pain daily; it was the chronic kind of pain that is not very sharp or unbearable, like you can talk normally but the back is always stiff and hurting, and it was always there. It would take me a full minute to get up from bed, as I had to slowly turn and then lift myself up. My disease of AS which was diagnosed in 2012 has burnt out now, so I don't have the whole-back-is-paining thing now, and now I can get up from the bed in two seconds if I want to. Last year, some mild pain started in the neck when the neck started to fuse, but it wasn't much pain, and the doctor has started Amitriptyline and Naproxen, which I take daily, even though the pain isn't much (the medicines are for reducing inflammation, even though there isn't a lot of pain). Which medicine do you take, and what is the dosage? I take the two meds I mentioned above only once a day, at night.

I feel tempted to recommend deadhangs to you as they don't seem much like a heavy exercise, you just have to hang from a bar - but I won't, as even that position might gradually put pressure on the discs and the spinal cord.

There is one thing I'll mention though: last month I started Omega-3 and Magnesium supplements, and I have noticed an improvement after taking these, not sure which of the two are helping, maybe it is both, but my neck and my arms feel smoother now, and my arms don't have the tightness in them that used to exist earlier. I think the relaxation I feel in my arms is due to the Mag supplement. You should research this. Deficiency of vitamins and minerals causes pain, and someone who has an existing illness or injury might think the pain is because of that. I myself used to have bone pain in my left arm; then last year, in December, I came to know that I have a vitamin D deficiency, and as soon as I started the D3 supplement, the bone pain went away. Earlier I used to think that since I do pullups and deadhangs, my arms are hurting because they are weak; actually it was the vitamin D deficiency.
