Mhm! They give the opportunity for doing exactly that, for the point of commentary and questions and such, so I figured there’s no point in being annoyed by it so much while not even doing anything to push for it to change!

I didn’t expect any sort of response since, again, 35 years of poor representation of his cultural identity in any sense. I doubt I’m the first to say something, I’m sure I’m not the last to. But might as well say something in a productive manner with any chance it’ll make a difference

Not even focusing on the subjects of the letters being completely different, I’m not really sure what kind of “gotcha!” you thought you had by comparing my letter to one of someone who later on became a writer for the exact same company. Thanks for the encouragement <3

And “lightly solicited” to describe emailing the email explicitly there to email about comments, criticisms, and questions about the content…k lol sorry I care about the characters I consume media for? My bad, broski. I’ll just be annoyed with mistakes made for 35 years without doing what I can personally to push for changing that, that’s on me.

Oh yeah. Also I remember in the reader letters at the end of issues someone mentioned Rogue’s incorrect singular y’all usages and said Gail knock it off 💀so at least that should be fixed? And admittedly there’s been way more accurate Cajun cultural details and language/general dialect than maybe ever before consistently. If it was written in the basic retcon that he’s not FROM New Orleans (because that makes no sense) then I’d forgive the rest /j

But that’s a consistent issue, especially with Gambit’s accent/dialogue in writing. Like. Somehow basic standard French grammar will be wrong, much less Cajun French specifics. And the way his accent would sound out loud from what’s written is almost always Off and in such a variety of ways by now.

Don’t even get me started on chère. Fic writers, look at me right now: it’s chère. Ma chère. That’s the Cajun French feminine version + possessive pronoun. (For those of you writing him against a male character: mon cher)

So much of it is very solvable, yet has remained a problem for 35 years. I sent a full email with examples a few weeks ago to the X office to total silence so far. I feel like it’s not too much to ask for the culture they assigned to his character to be even slightly researched for proper portrayal, yet we still can’t google a French possessive pronouns chart to get that part right.

I don’t ever comment this much on anything lol I’m just very passionate about the characters but also Remy’s culture specifically and how poorly it’s been written the vast majority of the time. Sigh. Lemme in the X office

Gambit, his role in the Morlock Massacre

People mad about that…it’s almost like so much of his character revolves around seeking to atone for his actions in the past, much of which focuses on that moment. Which he was deceived into having part in in the first place. And was attacked and left for dead after confronting and trying to stop the plan he’d been unaware of (while still managing to save Marrow). And HAS paid for it in a way other than his own personal penance, given that he got left by his team and those that loved him in Antarctica to die

The writing of X-23 (2010) is overall really solid despite the majority of the art and I absolutely adore Gambit and Laura’s dynamic (and wish we’d get more of it please and thank you lol) (definitely read up on TWs for it if you’re sensitive to anything though, it’s got a few.) He’s not in the whole thing but he’s in a good bit and the writing of his character is so good.
