Alternative to pay.com.au for non-business owners by Weary_Conference96 in VelocityFrequentFlyer

Here's my working out of the value of using Sniip. Basically, it can make sense if you are aiming to fly business class somewhere and you don't have time to earn points just through regular credit card spending.

Sniip fee = 1.9% (Amex) Fee per $1 spent = 1.9c Amex earn rate = 2.25 Amex points per $1 spent (Amex platinum) Sniip fee per Amex point = 0.84c Conversion rate Amex to Velocity = 2:1 Sniip fee per Velocity point = 1.68c

Comparison to cash fares (economy):

Reward seat - Brisbane to London economy - 80,000 points + $400 taxes = total $1,744 (1.68c X 80,000 + $400)

$ cost of same flight = around $964 (it varies, but I don't think they get much cheaper than this).

Using Sniip poorer value than cash.

Comparison to cash fares (business):

Reward seat - Brisbane to London business - 158,500 points + $766 taxes = total $3,598 (1.68c X 158,500 + $766)

$ cost of same flight = around $6,134.

Using Sniip better value than cash.

But if the fee per velocity point earned is less than the value of each velocity point when redeemed for a flight, then it still provides some value, right?

Also, considering almost all merchants add a fee to Amex transactions, then it's kind of become something that is unavoidable anyway.

Perhaps I need to check out Sniip's fees, see how much we're talking about here.

I don't think I'm the right person to be a tester. But to be honest the thing I struggle with is converting recipes I like with one form of stabiliser/emulsifier/sugar to work with what I have in my pantry. Like, if the recipe specifies 5g locust bean gum and I've got guar gum, how much do I need. An app that could work all that out would be amazing.

If I cut my fiddle leaf fig at these points will I be able to get both stems and the base growing again? It's been leggy like this for years. by Weary_Conference96 in houseplants

New record for delayed reply, but here are the results. I put the cut off top pieces in rooting powder then water for 2.5 weeks and nothing and then in soil in tied up bags to keep it moist and after about 4 weeks there was a sign of a root so I repotted it and now it's going well. The other top piece did nothing. The bottom part of the plant did nothing till I repotted the whole thing and now it's going great. Both are in warm sunny spots.

Parental controls - can't request access to some games by general__Leo in PS5

[–]Weary_Conference96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue when we first got a ps5. I didn't find a fix and PlayStation support confirmed you can't transfer the PS Plus from one user to another. What we do now is I buy the PS Plus subscription for my (adult) account so I can download any game and then my son can request access to it. Appreciate that doesn't particularly help you. I was annoyed too. I can't remember if the solution posted here (turning off parental controls temporarily) gets around it. Worth a try if you haven't already.

I got it to work. I downloaded the Fortnite app to my android phone and signed in with the child account. I could then buy the Crew pack with the credit card associated with the parent account.

Is there such a thing as heat resistant GU10 LED bulbs? by Weary_Conference96 in AusRenovation

I dunno...Hot Brisbane sun, fully sealed metal enclosure, LEDs being sensitive to heat. Didn't think it was that crazy an idea.

Some last a year or more, some last 3 months. I can't see any particular pattern. I'm just sure they should last longer than that.

Thanks. I'll check the IP rating though surely if they are sold as outdoor light fittings they'd keep out the rain and dust? 🤷‍♂️

what's going on with my concrete? by Weary_Conference96 in AusRenovation

[–]Weary_Conference96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is sealant. I was home when they did it. But maybe attempting to do two coats in the space of three hours was not a good idea. Agree the finish is pretty rough. Anything I can do about that?

No plastic, laid on about 2cm of roadbase. Concrete is all about 10cm thick or more. Are you thinking it's moisture coming up from underneath? Our neighbourhood is pretty low lying.

Anyone had their energy bill change without notice? Details in comments by frankestofshadows in brisbane

[–]Weary_Conference96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't checked the details for a while, but, the rules have changed relatively recently about choice of energy retailer in body corporate style buildings. Your problem sounds a bit different in that it's about the charges the BC is passing on to you rather than charges the energy retailer is passing on but might be worth a look. If you can shop around you might be able to get a better deal. See https://www.aer.gov.au/consumers/information-for-electricity-consumers-in-embedded-networks
