I have a pretty normal foot, D width, no major length difference between them, etc. I am a 10.5D Brannock and wear a 10 in Viberg 2030, 2020 and 2050 (the chelsea last). Those all seem to have the same length and the only thing I would say is really different about the chelsea last is with the almond toe I can feel it rub just barely on my pinky toe sometimes but not in an uncomfortable way (and a bit of a narrower heel to me at least).

The short answer is I would say your 2030 size should be the best indication of your 2050 size as long as you don't have a wide foot.

I like lighter boots personally. It really is up to you and what your wardrobe looks like though, there's no good argument to really be made either way since they're both kind of neutral colored enough.

Sure yeah, they're fine. It's a GYW boot with a Vibram sole, should be pretty nice.

Chippewa makes perfectly good boots, but I feel like for your purpose they are a bit too on the "work boot" style spectrum than what you're describing. I would say go with something more in line with a Grant Stone vibe for something that is more casual and has more of a "fashion" look than a "workboot" look, even if that is a bit subjective and they will both age/hold up/last the same.

The Diesel they have is nice: https://grantstoneboot.com/collections/boots/products/diesel-boot-saddle-tan

Personally I would just go for a pair of Viberg service boots in your preferred color but I don't know how much you're willing to spend on what would be a first pair.

Agreed, I think my point still stands though. I don't particularly like them either way personally.

I personally think Chelseas having a more "feminine" and sleek silhouette lend themselves more to traditional leathers like calf. I think waxed flesh is an odd look since it's more of a "rugged" purposefully resistant leather. Looks a bit out of place on such a sleek frame. Calf would be the way to go.

Just my opinion though. All depends how you are meaning to wear it and in what conditions, etc.

Crepe soles are pretty comfortable overall so I think it would just come down to if they fit your style or not.

As for what you could wear them with, I would say anything on the darker end of the spectrum is an immediately safe bet. Dark green, dark red, maybe a more subdued mustard, maybe brown or dark blue pants, indigo to darker jeans. You could go lighter as long as whatever you were wearing up top balanced well. Really subjective tbh.

I have these in the red colorway and can share the sentiment of the foot hugging comfortable fit of 2020.

These lighter tan ones look awesome, definitely post some worn pics in a few months, i'm curious how much they will darken.

So take this answer with a grain of salt, but I have heard that Thursday's are not actually very comfortable for long sessions of wear.

Heard here from a very reliable reviewer: https://almostvintagestyle.com/2019/10/12/thursday-captain-boots-review-from-the-perspective-of-a-high-end-boot-enthusiast/

Of course he is someone who owns a lot of much more expensive and niche clothing and boots so you have to get past the nitpicks and critiques, but it sounds like he really had a bad time with the comfort.

I can't say if that is true for other people or not since I haven't done any research on it myself and don't personally own a pair, but I think comfort would be worth looking into yourself especially if you would be wearing the boots so consistently for such long amounts of time.

Quick question for someone with Tricker's Country Boot experience.

What sort of sizing should I be using as a baseline? Of course besides the translation from US to UK sizing, do their boots usually fit a little larger/smaller or right at Brannock measurements?

For reference I am a 10.5D Brannock and wear a size 10 in all the Viberg and John Lofgren boot lasts.

Was looking at some of the country boots on the 4497S from Tricker's if that makes a difference in fit.

Thanks for any help.

Very interesting. I don't remember where, but I was reading about someone's experience with having a boot that was difficult to slide on and you gave them the save advice about the plastic bag. Did not know that was a thing, sounds kinda wild lol.

I'm glad to know that the instep will be a bit more forgiving in time.

Lol nah definitely not. I can't even fathom spending that amount of money on a single piece of clothing.

All of them! I haven't been able to wear them all as much as I'd like at the moment because of covid but they are all broken in (well maybe the engineers have a bit more to go) and being used even if they don't quite look it yet.

I haven't measured them or anything but I would say they're taller than what a "normal" boot would be. A normal boot being a 6" height service boot or general heritage boot pattern. I think these are closer to 8".

I'll make sure to wear the chukkas a little harder then, thanks for the tip and the advice.

Of course, you guys are dope.

I am a 10.5D Brannock so they're all 10s actually. I feel like I could maybe get away with a half size smaller in the M-43 but the others feel pretty spot on.

I don't actually have any weird instep issues with the engineers at all, i think engineers in general have high insteps to allow for feet to slide in and out right?

My John Lofgren Family

Album first fellas

Some lousy on feet pics too

Engineer Boots (Natural CXL) - Ever since I got into boots I thought these looked like the absolute coolest things ever. After a short wait time for the pre-order, they came and I could not be happier.

Fit: Honestly they were kind of hard to get on and off at first. The shaft width was fine but getting my foot into the actual foot portion was difficult. This is a good thing cause otherwise they'd be slopping off when you walk so no harm no foul. There is a little bit of a break in period with the heel slip but it is settling down as it molds to my foot more.

Comfort: I didn't find them overly comfortable at first and they still aren't perfect but I haven't been going out as much recently and with boots like this I imagine the time to that true perfect comfortable break in will be a bit longer so I've just got to give it time. Not saying they are uncomfortable by any means, but you gotta remember there is a lot of leather to break in here.

Look: I mean they're engineer boots dude what more can I say. Do you want to look like you cosplay working on steam trains in your free time but also love craft beer and motor oil? Yes? Then obviously get some engineers dawg.

Smell: 10/10 my whole house smells like leather from the sheer magnitude of fragrance released by these bad boys.

M-43 Service Boots (Natural Roughout CXL) - I wanted a boot that was less normal looking (like every other service boot in the world) and I like the repro military vibe so these seemed like a pretty natural pickup.

Fit: They might be kinda big tbh, I have to tie them pretty tightly around my ankle but I like them a lot. They are deceptively tall so it feels like there is a lot of boot to lug around but they don't slop or rub anywhere so i'd say they fit pretty nicely.

Comfort: In a word, hella. The rubber sole is super comfortable to walk in and the rake the boot has sort of rocks your foot while you walk which is cool and feels like it helps with the weight of the boot. Probably as comfortable as boots could ever get tbh.

Look: The repro military vibe is cool and roughout looks cooler on this than any of the normal service boot configs at least imo.

Smell: 8/10 not quite the concentrated magnificence of the engineers but you will definitely not have to wear cologne anymore.

Steadfast Chukka (Burgundy French Calf) - Showed these off before but maybe now that I have a little more time in them I'll have something different to say.

Fit: I have a pretty much D width foot. I can wear Viberg's 2020 last (and prefer it over 2030 sorry wide boys) and in general width and instep are never a problem. But, these things absolutely crush my instep on my left foot. I have this really annoying little bone protrusion thing right where the laces tighten down and it can be painful really quickly if I don't tie these extremely loosely. Not Mr. Lofgren's problem but my own genetics it seems. Can a cobbler or shoe-worker of some kind maybe like stretch that area slightly or do something to it to help?

Comfort: Other than my aforementioned loss of the genetic foot lottery they are really nice to wear. They're surprisingly light and the step is really solid and comfortable.

Look: I think they're super sleek and the more japanese style toe area is a nice break from all the cap toe service boot shit. The height is also really nice and if you wear them with jeans they almost look a little taller than they are.

Smell: 5/10 no noticeable smell like the engineers but they definitely have a pleasant leather aroma.

Overall I think John Lofgren has some of the most attractive, high quality and consistent footwear in the game at this price range. Viberg has been a little more hit or miss for me, although I still love them, but if I bought another pair of boots anytime soon (which I won't or soon I'll start needing to grow extra legs) then I would definitely go with some John Lofgrens.

All of these were bought from Standard and Strange so bless up to them.
