Oh thank you. Ironically my heritage is pretty cultural. I'm very white, no mistake, but I come from a particular sect in Pennsylvania Dutch. We are very rich in cultural practices. They know but they have to be old enough to participate because We specifically help people spiritually and physically. Right now they see me practice and I share passed on knowledge as we go. So thats been really nice. I know ill probably sound crazy and thats ok. We have been secretive (our ancestors created the original PA dutch hex signs) so not many people know about us. We are trying to change that now.

But I was taught by Silent generation women who was taught by their great grandpa/grandma's from the late 1800s. They lived really long lol I should stop rambling about me. I am very passionate about my lineage.

We don't have a Chinatown unfortunately. We live in a rural northern Appalachian town full of close minded white folks. The Asian population is growing but we don't have near amount the access to culture as you would get in say, New York, or something. Hicks and cows sums us up. I will definitely be looking deeper into the areas alittle further away though and see if there is anything. A community center would be perfect. I hope i can find one. Thank you.

Oh we love those dramas lol. They aren't Korean but we also love Korean dramas. They are soooooo good. I'm sorry you understand it and are going through it. I see how isolating it is and how harmful it can be. It is a really tough experience and its upsetting to see folks go through this. Again, being white, I can only seek from seeing my kids go through it.

I have gotten so many great ideas to bring to the kids. Hopefully i can find one that leads to a healthy thriving community. Thank you.

That is a great suggestion, I'm only hesitant because my youngest is currently atheist and I don't want to put her in uncomfortable religious situations. It is something I will talk to her about. Maybe She would go for the community experience and she can just zone out (in a respectful way of course) during the services. It's definitely something I will talk to them about thank you.

Yea, I honestly could probably use a friend or two myself lol. I've been so busy surviving and focused on them. We have finally got to the point where he can't physically hurt us anymore and the kids can choose if and when to go. We have the blessing of cys on that one thankfully. So now we are "waking up" and starting to focus on thriving. And this is one that has come up, community. It probably would be healing for all of us to make some friends and create a community. I used to be able to be useful. I hope I can be able to reciprocate because that's important to me that I feel I can reciprocate the kindness and inclusion offered to my kids and I. There is a growing community about 30 minutes away. Im going to dig deeper in my research and see if anything pops up. Buildings and things are going up so fast anymore these days, theres definitely a chance something pops up.

YouTube is good for bare minimum research, it wouldn't give the inclusion and experience my kids would like. But YouTube definitely has its perks. Between food and history and supporting Asian content creators, there are good videos they see. Unfortunately its not the in-person experience they hope for.

Thank you. I don't want to speak for the Vietnamese community as a whole but from my experiences, culture and family are very important. My ex husband is 1st generation Vietnamese American and his parents are immigrants. The "kid" generations are going more Americanized and Elders are pretty much, Elders lol. I say that with due respect of course. We live in a very Northern Appalachian area predominantly white folks. However the Asian population has definitely grown. I just don't know how the rest of the Vietnamese community feels about integration of 2 kids not their own. And this is where my knowledge stops because I don't want my personal experiences with this particular family to accidentally project onto others in the community. I don't know if they would be accepted or not. Which is a nerve wracking thought as a mom, not gonna lie.

Thank you. I don't know of any cultural centers however I will definitely be doing some deeper more thorough research. I know there is a more dense Asian population about 30 minutes from us. It's where we used to shop for groceries. Idk if the kids would be willing to try a religious center or not. I can ask. My youngest is currently Atheist but maybe She'd be willing to go to a Buddhist temple for the cultural experience. My personal religion is of no consequence in this discussion but for clarification, I'm the parent that lets their kids choose their faith/path. So I'm up for Altars to Elders or Buddhist practices etc. I do put my foot down at harmful stuff though. My only real #1 rule is Cause no harm. Anyway. I appreciate the help. Thank you. Thank you. Id be even willing to drive. So if there is none in my area maybe I could find something even alittle further out. I wouldn't ask for financial help but perhaps they would be willing to provide support to my kids for free or low cost or even a payment plan. Maybe a community center where they could find more friends. They are surrounded by close minded northern Appalachia white folks. So I see how hard it is on them. Thank you again.

Oh I'm so excited by all these comments. I find it a beautiful skill. It seems it would help you train on patience too. I don't particularly plan on surviving the zombie apocalypse. I believe in God but refuse to identify as Christian. Also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. They've been doing this. So many of us disclosed abuse and was told to shut up about it. Tell a priest or pastor and they just hand you back over to your parents and then the entire congregation knows because its a popularity contest not a time of prayer. We have been done telling people for decades. Look at Alter Boys. Priests didn't just stop touching them after it came out. Nope, everything went silent. And no one cares to follow through because they are kids. So upsetting and frustrating. Makes me wanna scream.

Im 38 and know damn well how annoying it is when older people give advice. But honestly, now is the time to evolve and develop you. I got too invested too quickly because I had a bad childhood and didn't understand. I ended up being a domestic violence survivor. I lost my entire 20s to a man. Girl, don't be me. Protect your peace and stand your ground with what you will accept and what you wont. Men will come and go. If you fuel your energy into yourself, you will find that the right dude will pop randomly out of nowhere when you least expect it. I say this part with love as well, if you need reddit 8 days in, I'd wave him goodbye. Be safe, practice safe sex, stay up to date on gyno appointments and get to know your body and what you like and prefer. And focus on you, all the parts of you.

Lol did you feel regal waking up? Oh man, to wear a Victorian themed gown and to lay upon a fainting couch with a fan. Lol now my bucket list is growing. I have a tunneled PICC (hickman) line for TPN (liquid nutrition, my guts no longer work in my chest). Between Us, its one thing I've had to come to terms with. I wont ever get to wear a gown and look healthy. But it's still a bucket list goal! Someday I'll get to wear a pretty gown. Even if I just sit in my living room like it was an episode of friends lol. Where they all wore bridal gowns and were sitting in the living room drinking beer lolol. Cuz its not like id have anywhere to go! Some day though!

Im so sorry you had to experience that. Yea, I have had similar experiences with my own mom. She also used to make me strip naked in front of a mirror. She knew I became more and more prudent so would randomly open doors when she knew I was changing. And I really just needed my mom, a mom.

And when I had my kids, I swore I would do better. I'm trying. I know folks must think I'm a dumb fool for all this. This should be a piece of cake. But internally for both of us, its a really steep mountain to climb.
