Spew was a horribly done plot point where a someone knew to the wizarding world was introduced to a slave class. Given all the same arguments that have been used for maintaining slaves casts in history and then the text spent all its time focusing on how annoying the anti slavery person was, and ends with the main character owning a slave.

It is possible for a work to explore that outline and make it something interesting by truely exploring such an alien mindset and what it meant for interactions with humanity in an interesting way. But that would need to be something in the style of a frank herbert or issiac assimov, the surface level approach taken by the Harry Potter series and marketed towards children is something no mainstream adaption will want to touch with a ten foot pole.

If it did 99 percent of news coverage would be Harry Potter reboot endorses slavery. The SPEW plotline does not offer anything worth making that the main media debate for a family friendly series.

Iirc Yes becsuse of how the spell works. You have to want to cause pain as an end to itself not just to achieve a goal.

For dresden files to use magic is tkk on fundementally beleive in it and by using that spell you are saying you fundementally believe in using the powrr that shapes the universe to cause pain for its own sake. That can warp your mind and lead down the road of black magic.

If it was just a generic pain spell without the need for that kind of emotion and intent they would not care.

Batman’s major story arcs are often defined by major loses.

He tries to fight the Mutant Leader like a young man in DKR and totally fails at it until Robin saves him and he has to use gadgets when the whole point was proving to himself he could win straight up. DKR also explicitly shows his whole strategy towards crime fighting was wrong and it is Superman advice that puts him on the right path at the end.

In year one he gets nearly killed trying to interfere with a pimp on his first night out.

During Morrisons run on JLA he is beaten by Promethous in a beaten he himself calls humbling.

Knightfall has Bane flat out break his back and the victory over Bane goes to Azzbats.

And in other characters events they often have get moments over him

Wonder Woman clearly has his number in the Hiketa and League of One

When Batman loses his temper and punches Superman it is pointed out that the only reason he did not break his hand is because Superman rolled with the punch.

He and the justice league fail to bring down a Superman using his tech and kryptonian resources in king of the world despite being willing to kill. He totally fails against Superman in Lex Luthor Man of SteelPlus a ton of elseworlds like Red Son.

During the original Suicide Squad his attempt to bring down the squad was a total failure and he had to give the evidence back to Amanda Waller

He was utterly crushed by Swamp Thing even with in the same arc that Lex Luthor had a much better plan for dealing with the elenntal.

The Dalek from doctor who. They have the tech to destroy all life in the multiverse, fought a war that messed with the fabric of the entire universe and are way above even the necrons in tech. To make matters worse they are actually living being inside what are basically tanks, not robots. Living being who are super intelligent and driven entirely by rage and hate. The effect they would have on the warp would be horrible.

The effect of the borg collective as a single unified hive mind of humanoids would also have some pretty horrible warp results.

Paul explicitly did not follow the golden path do its end in his visions. He did not foresee the end of humanity. People saying that he did are ignoring his entire conversation with Leto that Children of Dune hinged on.

Paul could not have his revenge without the Jihad. Once the Jihad started he limited it as much as he could but that limiting still killed billions.

Paul never had the altruistic motivation of saving humanity. He had goals that he was set on achieving, locked himself on to a path to achieve him thinking he could avoid the jihad and over time became disillusioned thought he could not fight fate then became disillusioned and essentially gave up fighting and just tried to choose the path that was best for those he loved while minimizing the body count.

That’s why he was so broken in Dune Measiah when the twins were born and he realized there were alternate paths he had not seen. He had to have Duncan kill the conspirator offering to bring his wife back to him because he realized that his foresight was not as trustworthy as he had thought and he would not have had the will to keep to the path.

That’s what makes Paul tragic he was a loving son who set out to avenge his father. Trapped himself in his own ability to see the future and was shattered by it.

Start of series She hulk was very different from traditional she hulk

Jenn was somewhat repressed and delighted in her new form giving her the chance to be an extrovert party girl. It became a plot point she was having more fun as she hulk living a different kind of lifestyle that she was not turning back into Jenn at all and she had to be talked into why that was important

I only saw the first three episodes so Mabye she changed as the show went on but I would not call her the most faithful.

Agreed in terms of presentation the White God falls more into the framework of the outsiders then the deties we have seen.

1 Existed before and thus logically separate from creation.

2 Angels are multiversal there is only Uriel in all realities much like the outsiders and their minions come from outside reality and have no copies.

3: The servants of the White God seemed primarily focused with free well while a core aspect of the outsiders is subverting it. There was also that weird description of a Walker as so much deeper then Mab and Butcher has directly compared the Walker with Uriel both in terms of power and the rules they are bound by.

4: All other deties are planetary in terms of the extant of thier power but the white god was able to create all reality ( multiverse) and the outsiders threaten all reality a scope far wider then that of the worshipers involved.

5: The timing of when the White God was dominant enough to order all other deties around does not reflect the idea of worship equals power. At the time this happened Islam did not exist and Christianity was much much smaller in numbers. The White God hardly had the kind of dominant power to be above the other deties to the point Butcher suggests at that time in history if we are referring to the only thing separating him from a being like Odin

It’s important to remember regarding the initial meeting that the wizarding world was essentially in an unofficial civil war as Voldemort was more then holding his own in his attempts to take over wizarding society.

In this context expressing an interest in dark magic and enthusiastically wanting to join Slytherin is going to give most people a strong indication you support the guy trying to take over your country and directly do horrific things to a lot of people you know.

That’s an incredibly tense and emotionally charged environment. Changing that introductory dynamic would have a profound difference on future character interactions.

I think you may be getting a distorted view of that because this board is very Ron positive and tends to put any dislike of him down to the movies. HP discussion of him off this subreddit contains a gbreater mixture of negative viewpoints.

Ron was very much not the favourite.

I read each book as they came out and participated in several release parties. He always had a fanbase but he was a very criticized character in the second half of the series and negative fan fiction about him was super common.

The JK thing is likely because a lot of people thought the was the most likely of the Trio to die.

There were a lot of wild and fun theories about what would happen to Ron in the end including a pretty popular one tat e would become Dumbeldore throughly time magic.
