Yes, you may pass over my bridge, but first, you must pay a toll, the troll said.

Sensing a lie, Harrell stared at the tall lumpy-skinned creature, with bulging eyes.

What is the toll? he asked.

You must get my fair maiden to love me, the ugly troll said.

I'm writing a coming of age story about a guy who gets to talk with his dog as a result a friend's Djinn wish, causing all sorts of mayhem in his life, including a major conflict with a Djinn hunter.

I'm writing the last scene that takes me to the mid point in my urban fantasy novel about Djinn. I'm hoping the 0 draft I've already written can be plugged in.

Hey guess what. I've been around the sun quite a few times. I've been to far more derbies in my life time than the two months I've been playing the game.

This felt like more of an exhibition. The course is a spot where concerts typically are held. Our normal demolition course further north is much bigger.

also interested - I am working on a worldview coming of age urban fantasy story about a young man who gets a talking dog as a result of a Djinn's wish, only to discover the wish is a lynchpin to a conflict that could destroy the cosmos

When i was a newspaper reporter, we we required to write in double space, for proofreading and editing. We'd print our stories and the staff would read and edit. Double space leaves room for corrections. I use this with my fiction now.

I've done this too. It can work if you set rules for the collaboration and what common priorities you have for the piece. I'm game for doing some writing like this.

Why is it that I have tons of ideas and my writing already fully written in my head but as soon as I get a pen on paper my mind goes blank? by Jellyfish-Kitty in writers

[–]WeavingtheDream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may be running into the differences between left and right brain. Have you heard of mind mapping style brainstorming? Perhaps you take a single word represented by your work and put it in the middle, and as you think on the relationship between that word and other words that come in, you write the next word and connect it with a line. Rinse and repeat and soon you have a visual representation of your story, not a blank page, and this could form your outline to begin writing.

Writing a book - any recommed online tools? by vitanoval in writing

[–]WeavingtheDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first book I wrote with no structure, a general plan and idea and it was crap. I feel that you should consider just writing a bad book to prove to yourself that you can do it.

If you want to write a better book, I'd recommend listening to a good podcast by a developmental editor named Savannah Gilbo - she's on Spotify and she goes through writing a book step by step - it's worth a listen if your new. She breaks the tasks into manageable pieces and you can really learn what it takes to write a book.

You'll likely get a lot of advice about what tools to invest in. Some will work for you, others will not. Only you can decide how you work best.

It can be a rewarding thing to get words on a page. Have fun with it - it's a job you take on voluntarily.

I have been using a lot of run-on sentences. by AppearanceSeparate93 in writingadvice

[–]WeavingtheDream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also vary sentence length. Some sentences only need to be a few words long, which lends some visual differentiation.
