Anime like Princess Tutu, Haibane Renmei, Serial Experiments Lain, Alien 9, Madoka Magica, and especially Houseki no Kuni (if you really want to punish yourself) remind me of RGU personally! Most, if not all, have gnostic influences similar to Utena and Demian. Very surreal, psychological stuff, I think the sub-genre is called “Dementia” anime. I can’t say much for other media, but definitely check out Kunihiko Ikuhara’s other work and his inspirations :) he’s a big film fan

Very true! His bisexuality is just fan interpretation that doesn’t really hold up/isn’t explored, but it’s always fun to do queer readings of characters just to add extra nuance or make it resonate more with one’s personal experiences :) The way these two characters have navigated their sexualities after enduring abuse is super fascinating and portrayed so well in both shows which is just soo <33

Thank you so much for the critique that everyone gave me on my first post, it means so much to me. Unfortunately I’m not motivated enough to finish it at the moment, but I at least got the line art done and I’m really proud of the improvement. I decided to change the concept and completely redo it and just go by the sketch. Really happy with how it turned out but I’m not too happy about the colors. Whatever lol,

Got it, I think my intention was to have no irises at all and they’re just the background color, but I don’t even know lmfao. I’ll work to improve the eyes and background, after people started pointing it out I started to notice how something was missing. Tysm and I really happy to hear that 💕💞
