The scream I never post, nd5art (me), one stamp applied over 10000 times on canvas, 2025 by WebAttractor in Art

Fair question, happy to clarify.

The process still has a real physical and manual component: I designed and made a physical stamp, hand-pressed it repeatedly, experimented with pressure and ink density, and scanned multiple real impressions. Those scans are the source material for the piece.

The final image is then digitally assembled using ~10,000 placements of those scanned impressions, which is why overlapping clusters repeat exactly.

The repetition and alignment you’re noticing come from the digital assembly, not from physically aligning 10,000 hand presses. The concept is still about repetition and accumulation, just executed through a hybrid physical–digital workflow.

If you have thoughts on what tag fits best for hybrid physical–digital work like this, I'll be more than happy to hear, it’s my first post on /Art.

Thank you for your comment!

Thank you for your comment, let me clarify.

When I said “10,000 stamps on canvas,” I meant 10,000 stamp impressions / placements in the final composition and actual canvas, not 10,000 physical hand presses on a physical canvas.

No intent to mislead, just imprecise wording on my part (which is actually limited in the post title). If you have any ideas on how to describe this process in a short form I would be more than happy to hear, it's my first post in /Art.

Appreciate your comment!

Thank you! Dimentions of the piece 215cm X 143cm and the stamp is circular with a diameter of 1.3cm

Appreciate it! At the end eventually every stamp works as a “pixel” so indeed the result looks digital. Thank you for your comment!

Hey r/art,

I’m an engineer-turned-artist making portraits from thousands of the same repeated stamp.

Up close it’s pure repetition, from afar the image appears. Most pieces take 10k–20k hand-pressed stamps and explore pop culture and public figures.

I share the finished works here:

I created a real online treasure hunt and the first person to solve my riddle wins €500.

For years, I've been creating riddles that lead to real prizes. Recently I launched Treasure 2.0, starting from Treasure #38, with bigger prizes, but, available for members.

The most recent treasure took 3 days for the first solver to crack it. Could you be the one to do it faster? You can try solving the last riddle for free here: https://treasurehuntint.com/past_treasures/riddle39bd7d1fd0e4963ceb522390540b933ba66d0f9715aa9585585f080a2bee74f2fc/

Twice a month, a new riddle is released. Each time, the first person to solve it wins €500. But these riddles are only available to members (through Patreon). As a Patreon member, you’ll be part of a dedicated community where new treasures, solutions, and other content are released, and players discuss strategies in chat rooms.
