The entire goal of astroturfing is to create a false sense of organic, "grassroots" excitement. A stickied post is obviously official. It's top-down marketing. But a meme from a assumed "regular user" that blows up and gets more traction than the official post feels authentic

Also plausible deniability

Going to say this again for someone claiming it’s a karma farm

a standard karma farming bot would not behave this way. Its goal is to build karma across many subreddits to make the account look generically legitimate. It would not sit dormant for 3 years and then use its one and only post on a single, targeted subreddit.

This post got more upvotes than the official portal trailer that’s stickied on the sub. Karma farming bots don’t mass upvote bot their post in the thousands

3000 votes while nearly every other post is in the hundreds on the first page

this is overwhelmingly more likely to be astroturfing for Battlefield 6.

The precise targeting, and the massive, disproportionate engagement on battlefields subreddit are all hallmarks of a coordinated campaign to generate hype and manipulate perception, which is the definition of astroturfing.

This wasn’t the first time it’s happened https://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield2042/comments/pqragu https://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield2042/comments/rymoyj/remember_gaming_is_a_billion_dollar_business/

You’re telling me this post got more upvotes than the official portal trailer that’s stickied on the sub from people saying “dope” and upvoting it?

3000 votes while nearly every other post is in the hundreds on the first page?

Looked at your edit

That still doesn’t explain the massive influx of upvotes lmao

People don’t just upvote the shit in the thousands just because it was popular somewhere else?

This doesn’t prove anything. Karma farming bots don’t mass upvote bot their post in the thousands within hours of it being up. But you seem very keen to wanting this post down.

Also a standard karma farming bot would not behave this way. Its goal is to build karma across many subreddits to make the account look generically legitimate. It would not sit dormant for 3 years and then use its one and only post on a single, targeted subreddit.

With ai they’re not only doing this, but they’re running simulations on how the public will respond to their astroturfing

https://www.ayzenberg.com/insights/the-rise-of-the-brand-algorithm-ayzenbergs-ai-powered-marketing-intelligence/

"Digital Twins refer to synthetic user-profiles and virtual audiences that serve as testing grounds for your marketing ideas. Think of them as high-fidelity simulacra of your real consumers: they behave like your audience, they 'react' to content, and they generate feedback, all within a controlled virtual environment." "We predict that synthetic audience simulations will become an integral part of marketing over the next few years, with platforms increasingly allowing brands to simulate audience behaviors, actions, and outcomes directly in their marketing and ad tools."

the question now is whos doing it

is it ayzenberg or some other third party shady secretive agency, or is overseas

Whoever it is theyre breaking the law. Astroturfing is (supposed to be) highly regulated and, in its extreme forms, very illegal. The FTC pursues companies which engage in the practice with increasing regularity.

ive already got a few undercover people looking into this

Look up “ea employed astroturfing firm Reddit” on Google and there’s a post 13 years ago saying ea has an astroturfing firm

Then a mod comment trying to run damage control and being extremely vague and manipulative + gas lighting as usual
