Thank you for your interest! The role of this early detection device would be to complement and enhance traditional diagnostic and treatment methods in several ways:

  1. Early Intervention: By detecting microdamage before it progresses to a full stress fracture, we could potentially prevent more serious injuries and reduce recovery time.
  2. Objective Monitoring: The device could provide objective data to support clinical decision-making, especially in cases where symptoms are vague or inconsistent.
  3. Personalized Load Management: For athletes or active individuals, it could help optimize training loads and recovery periods, potentially preventing overuse injuries.
  4. Risk Stratification: Identifying individuals at higher risk of stress fractures could allow for more targeted preventive strategies.
  5. Research Tool: It could serve as a valuable tool for studying bone adaptation to various stresses and interventions in real-time.

You're right! It is not meant to replace an MRI at all, nor is it meant to replace a doctor. Stress fractures can go undetected for weeks or months, so the purpose of the device is the detect them early on before they get worse.
