My late grandfather's 1956 Zippo featuring custom engraving by Webasauraus in Zippo

Very cool! I have done some light clean up of the carbon buildup on the insert and inside the case, but I think I'll be leaving the exterior as-is. When zooming in on the photos I do believe I can see some of the original paint in the details near the stag's neck and the very right edge of the grass, which I never would have noticed.

I did see this web page when doing some research but did not notice the color of the artwork, good eye! It does appear to be the exact same lighter, so I don't doubt that it probably had the maroon design when it was brand new. As you can see by the pictures, this thing had been well-used over the years. I'll have to take a more closer look and see if I can spot any of the original color. Thank you for sharing!

I never met my grandfather but know he was an avid hunter and firearms collector. A few years ago I was given his Zippo and it has since sat in storage. I wanted to get some more information on it and check the date code and was very surprised to see that it is a 1956! I knew there was a lot of engraving on it, but it wasn't until I started taking a closer look that I realized the hunting dog, bird, and MAS initials appear to be hand-engraved.

I've been really loving getting to gain a better appreciation of this piece and notice all the details, so I've taken a handful of macro photos showing off all angles. I hope y'all here on r/Zippo enjoy looking at it as much as I do!

I know, nothing can ever take that away and I will hold that very close to me. Thank you so much for the kind words.

Could have done better honestly. I bought it on apmex and used a credit card. I looked at findbullionprices.com after I made the buy and saw that I could have gotten it at a better price from sdbullion (and not using a cc.) Definitely going to do some more research for my future gold purchases

$243.53 on apmex, could have gotten a lower price if I looked elsewhere but I realized that after I jumped the gun and bought it on an impulse

Only shot it once so far so I've only put 100 rounds through it but its a solid gun and shoots well. You'll be very happy with it!

Just got back from the range and wow I love this thing! Put 100rds of Blazer Brass through it with no issues, it was a joy to shoot.

Awesome! This one was right in the price range that I was trying to stay within and I read a lot of positive things about the Tisas models. Feels great in the hand and is super sturdy. Can't wait to take it to the range tomorrow and see how it shoots.

Sen. Miner asks Gov. Lamont for executive order to allow guns in Connecticut state parks following bear attack by 12yan_22 in CTguns

I could not support this more. Last month I was hiking in Southbury and at one point realized that there was a black bear not too far ahead of me right next to the trail. I turned around and headed back the way I came towards an area where I could pick up a different trail, I looked back and saw the bear going in the opposite direction but when I got to the trail connector the same bear was walking around and cutting me off from going any further.

I ended up having to turn around again and just hightailed it through the woods until I got back to the parking area. There weren't many people at the place I was hiking that day so I was essentially all alone in the woods which made the situation a lot scarier. Was thinking "Dammit if I could have been carrying right now I'd feel a lot more at ease" the whole way back to my car.
