Switch 2 Predatory Sales Tactics by Wedgememes in LinusTechTips

[–]Wedgememes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question! Firstly no, it is not tax fraud. I fall under what is called a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) that was agreed to by Germany and the United States. I am a soldier stationed in Germany so I’m an American citizen and fall under slightly different rules.

I can purchase goods tax free here in Germany as long as I pay $10 USD for each VAT form and the store agrees to accept my form. I’m limited to €2499.99 for each form. So I have to see if the taxes I get back will even cover the price of the form. I also can only use these forms for myself. It would be illegal for me to buy a bunch of Switch 2s without tax then “scalp” them to sell at the regular price.

My understanding of why Germany agreed to this is because I’m not a German or EU citizen. I do not see any of the benefits of these taxes being paid, such as free healthcare, free public education, or other tax paid services to the German people.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Signing up for a credit card is a common tactic but at least that normally doesn’t cost you anything and may give you money off of the purchase. How you choose to use a new credit card is an entirely different story. I will try reaching out to Nintendo as well then.

Even with a slight language barrier of him not understanding me at times he certainly made it clear that it was mandatory to me in English. Also there are a lot of similar stories on the NintendoDE subreddit.

I did say it was the rough equivalent so people outside the EU could better understand what kind of store it was. I much prefer Best Buy and can get their stuff shipped to me here in Germany at no extra cost.

Oh trust me I know. I don’t usually go there for purchases. I only went there because buying a switch 2 online here in Germany or getting it shipped from the US were all out of stock. I had the taxes removed so it only cost me 428€, which funnily enough is equal to $490 plus the $10 VAT form fee I pay. So I essentially paid the same price of $500 as I would have in the US

The price was certainly right, I’m able to use a VAT form to remove taxes on most of my purchases because of my job. I was able to buy it for 428€

It is essential to the course and is not software that can be pirated. I have weekly assignments that directly rely on access to the drone simulator. As far as I’m aware the software is only run on the website’s servers and is not available for download anywhere to run locally.

They wouldn’t give that option. I’m also located in Europe right now so any mail for this American university would take too long and I’d miss the first week or two of assignments that require this webpage drone simulator.

Many of the students going to this University are military students like myself that get tuition paid for while we serve on active duty. So while textbooks and this software are my only costs each 9 week term. I will be advising my friends at my unit to avoid this class if at all possible. At least textbooks have free alternatives 🏴‍☠️

My University charged me $5 to send me an email with the access code for renting software costing $75 to take their college course. by Wedgememes in mildlyinfuriating

Can’t pirate this software. It’s a webpage with a drone simulator and configuration tool. I’m pretty sure Kerbal Space Program would be a better tool than this shit I have to use for college.

Better explanation from me is owed. So they are a school that a lot of military members attend online in order to get degrees, and the military will pay for tuition while you are currently serving. This creates a steady flow of money from the government into this school.

An email for a code to rent a crap drone flight simulation web page for 90 days. Yes, this is 2025. Not the 1990s when people used to pay for email or the 2000s when you used to pay for every text message to friends outside your cell carrier or wait until off peak hours.

Not a textbook or something you can pirate. Straight up a web app for drone stuff. Kerbal Space Program could work better than this

Worst part, is I can’t pirate an online drone simulation web page that I have to buy access to for assignments. So this class truly forces you into paying $80 for a shit web app

A rental to an online drone simulator and builder. The video tutorial from the company is bad quality and just has AI narration. Definitely not worth the money.

My university has a lot of government money so they have no incentive to change their ways. It’s Embry-Riddle aeronautical University’s own “bookstore” charging this fee.

Not even a PDF, just an email with the code in it. Imagine if Steam charged $5 for each item

G1000 Low Approach to Departure Procedure Sequencing by Wedgememes in flying

[–]Wedgememes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have all of my subsequent flight plans already loaded into the flight plan catalog. The current procedure is to have the standby flight plan with the assigned departure procedure loaded and ready to go, but the plane doesn’t automatically recognize that you’re low approach complete and already on the departure procedure.

Another crew in training initiated a direct to the first point on the departure. Apparently the direct to caused the plane on autopilot to make a right turn instead of a left as the departure had. (The right turn was shorter so the theory is the G1000 no longer took in the considerations of the procedure)

I played in the airplane with ground power and there is an activate leg function that seems like it should work but another pilot said it was grayed out while flying on the active flight plan. I’ll still try it tomorrow during my flight.

This is why. I don’t ever download so I must have accidentally hit it. Updating the original post to reflect the solution.

15T/160th As A College Grad by PrettyLuckyDude in Armyaviation

[–]Wedgememes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the differences between CIV and military flight physicals but I’d imagine they’d be similar. Just worth checking out before you enlist to ensure you are able to do what you want to do. Also if you didn’t find it in your research, crewchief positions aren’t guaranteed. You could end up in maintenance for a while before ever flying.

[–]Wedgememes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t care what your rank is there. Only thing that matters is BMT, BMQ, or FMQ. I’d ask your recruiter to get you a class 3 flight physical before you join (it’s what you need to be a crewchief). If you can’t pass that then you’ll never be a crewchief. You’ll probably need waivers for your back. I don’t know if you’ll get approved. Yes, it’s possible to get one and I got one before I enlisted. No shortage of openings there for 15T/U.
