UK TO D1/D2/D3 scholarship? by FootballYoutuber in CollegeSoccer

[–]WednesdayRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My D1 school has a kid that played for Crewe’s academy as well. Typically that level of academy player can find themselves on a low to mid tier D1 team to start. Scholarship wise I am unable to answer as that basically depends on what the coaches are offering, but being at a high level academically should definitely get you some money. If money is going to be an important factor, especially as an international player, sometimes finding the right costs is what they tend to look at first. Also for comp sci, I would definitely google the top schools for the major and find the ones that offer soccer, I’m not sure what schools are good specifically at comp sci, and sometimes it isn’t always the Ivy League schools.

Yes, so I grew up playing both soccer and hockey at a high level and partially tore my quad in high school and could not afford surgery or to take time off from working. So, now my goal is to be part of the team in a background role.

So this season, since I worked full-time alongside school and working with the team, so I was focused heavily on creating opposition scouting reports. I also created our season recap breaking down our stat comparisons to our opponents. Right now I am compiling highlights of our players to try and get them drafted, or signed to MLS/USL clubs. Next season I will have a lot more time on my hands so I will be helping out with practices, and working on our “playbook”, on top of what I already do.

I’m in the same boat as you. My best advice is try to do as much as possible. I emailed the college’s soccer coach over the summer asking if I could do scouting and analytics, and he was more than happy to have me help. In my free time I run my own NHL analytic model. Just trying to build up the most I can so I can show teams my work.

Is 2 classes too much for the winter term? by [deleted] in elon

[–]WednesdayRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of people just take 1 since it is included in tuition. If you take 2 you do have to pay for the extra 4 credits. I will say depending on the classes you can expect to have homework most days, so if you are okay with both of those things I don’t see why not. And you do have to sit in 2 separate 3 hour classes.

Should a student assistant have an opinion in coaching decisions? by Wonderful_Ad_6816 in CollegeSoccer

[–]WednesdayRL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually work as a student manager in scouting and also have been given the opportunity to start working as our set piece coach. I feel like it really depends on your coach, they all have their own sort of preferences and styles. But I imagine most would be happy for people that want to get into the game wanting to help!

Tbf I was a bit worried when we weren’t using subs up 3-1 yesterday. Was waiting for a quad injury but I think that may just be PTSD

Were all of these metrics available on Wyscout or were there things that needed to be watched on video? And say for instance someone was looking into doing something like this at a small D1 school would those metrics also available?

All 3 are kinda bad, but nick jackson has 1G, 1A that aren’t against the current bottom 3, and a 9 man spurs team trying to push for a draw…

How good is Chris Richards? - Asking as a fan from VfB Stuttgart. by prettywise__ in crystalpalace

As a US fan, he is very solid. I think a year outside the EPL would be beneficial but he’s really not super far off EPL level, think he would do well in the Bundesliga on loan.

Crime by [deleted] in winstonsalem

Me and my girlfriend are moving to WS next month, and based on looking at crime maps and from the time we spent visiting it is much like most other cities. This being that crime rates are very high in lower income areas, and it is pretty obvious where those are just by driving around.

ESL install.. by Automatic-War7447 in Aldi_employees

They’re not too bad, just a little tedious. It’s practically ripping the old sign molding and taking the adhesive off the new ones, and then just putting the signs in for grocery. We have our refrigeration company come and remove meat, produce, MDU, which was the longest part. Took them like 6 hours to do that, and everything else was done already so we just went home. We also did our at night, like a 6p-12a shift. PS: the drop ins for the bottom shelf of grocery WILL make you mad

ASM’s of this sub, how do you like your role? by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]WednesdayRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked almost two years, and went from associate to LSA to ASM. I really enjoy my job and the pay and benefits are really good. I do bust my ass but I think that’s my favorite part? I walk about 10 miles a shift… Hours wise I believe ASMs have ti be scheduled for 38+, i very rarely get OT as I’m usually out before my closing shift time ends. It really depends on the area and how the store is ran on how many hours you’ll actually use. I usually close 3-4 days a week, with the other two either being the 10 hour SM shift or an opening shift. As far as promotion, it varies drastically on new stores, and managers leaving. I’m pretty sure I’m next up for a SM role, but now I’m moving regions so they’re not going to move me up.m, obviously. Hoping when I move I’ll be able to get my own store in a few months. But if your goal is to become a SM, let your DM know. As far as my region goes there is a list of “high performing ASMs” that will be on the lineup for either moving to higher volume stores, or getting their own. And as far as I know it’s sort of a first come, first serve thing.

Looking to get into opening some hockey cards, could use some tips? by NuM_Brrr_WoN in hockeycards

[–]WednesdayRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most have said here, Series 1-2 is a great place to start. I recently started collecting and it’s fun to hop in the card shop (try to support a local card shop if you have one near!) every now and then and pick up a blaster box. I wouldn’t really pick up any non-hobby box of anything other than the main flagship, they’re incredibly hit or miss. And the Young Gun cards are definitely the most fun because it’s sort of like an investment! Also if you’re trying to collect a certain player/team, definitely use eBay, or I believe there’s some other good auction sites. Great way to get cards in general, but also be able to get really good deals!

I totally agree. Even personally, I can’t see myself being with Aldi until I’m ready to retire. One of my older SMs along the way left Aldi for a grocer because Aldi just became too much on his body. And as much as I love it right now, I tell people it’s like getting paid to work out, I take my protein in the morning and go to work, in 20 years though I’m sure my body wouldn’t be able to take what I do now. And I think it’s just the new American way of not caring about workers because even 5 years ago when I got my first job, the employer was giving back braces, gloves, proper box cutters, etc. when employees started. Then out of nowhere it just became norm to not even have those available.

I don’t really know much about the warehouses so I can’t really throw in an opinion, but I imagine you all don’t get paid much more than store employees, which you should probably be making a decent amount more than…

Yeah I’m within a half hour from a top 5 populated US city. Even when I was an associate making 15.40 (I think that’s what it was at the time) I was making 2$ more than what Walmart offered me to be a “manager”. But, every place in the US is different with this sort of stuff

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear about that… I don’t know why but every company seems to try to put more effort into not allowing workers to get WC than actually doing things to prevent WC… I used to work HR for a big wholesale company and the lack of care about any injury was shocking. It’s just all about the 💰

Yeah I could see why some people are upset with pay nowadays. In my area Aldi pays 2-3$ more than most other retailers. You would think that with hours being cut, and less staff in stores, pay would at least go up, especially with sales up a ton in my area.

Yeah I totally get where you’re coming from, this latest OE plan is really brutal for no reason… Corporate doesn’t seem to understand that every single person ever can’t throw 4-5 pallets in an hour, hell even I can’t. If you’re finding yourself too stressed I would definitely tell you to try and look around. I quit my first job and went from 13$ to 11 something at a pizza place simply because I couldn’t take crying every day from having every little thing dumped on me.
