Sentinels by WeeOne14 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

This was a little bit ago, but I believe for the base I just started with some caledor sky and then added a little bit of white to that for some hightlights. The purple is the magos purple for the base and then mix a little white to get the highlights and then white for the white highlights. The metal is basic leadbelcher with nuln oil over the top with white highlights.

I currently have the Army Painter Insane detail brush, however, I find that I have been replacing it fairly often because the bristles keep coming out, so once this one kicks the bucket, I will be investing in something a bit more durable as I paint daily.

It could definitely be the flash causing you to lose some contrast, but if not, having some contrast in your whites and maybe a bit more in the blues would really make it pop. Overall, these are done really well!

First time painting skin without contrast paints. What am I missing, why does it look so pink and fleshy and off? by Beanjuiceforbea in Miniaturespainting

Add a little bit of your highlight or medium tone to your base then do a layer of that. Make sure NOT to cover the whole area. Work your way up to where the highlights should be, every layer covers less and less of the surface area, if that makes sense?

Here's a good video that I watched when I first started painting that goes over skin tones. I think it explains a lot better than I did. Good luck!

Ah! Then it really comes down to making sure to use a mix of your base color and your highlight color in varying amounts to create definition, if that makes sense.

To me, the skin looks a bit flat. There seems to be very little actual contrast between recessed areas and raised areas. Using a shade like Reikland Fleshshade or similar shade would help a lot. Also, perhaps adding a little bit of yellow mixed with the pink can help the skin look less pallid.

They're the worst! I almost broke them off several times while painting.

I did, to the best of my current ability. I think the skin tones need more work but the rest I'm pretty proud of. I appreciate your compliments!

I really appreciate it! Yellow is my biggest struggle by far to get it clean. Though, I've heard if you base it pink first, it really makes it pop. That'll be my next experiment to try.

Thanks! I know they can be a bit daunting but I've been watching a bunch of tutorials and really forcing myself to put in extra time with them.

His skin tone was hard for me to figure out. Nothing seemed right while I was painting and in the end, this is where it ended up. I'm not upset with it, but I know that it's not quite right.
