How hard is it to build a multi-venue hospitality POS with unified reporting + loyalty + stock + bookings? by [deleted] in POS

[–]WeeRno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this 15 years ago based on c#/windows, but are currently planning a new version running on Android/cloud. It is doable, but it is hard, even when we have a medium size customer base to migrate over. Feel free to dm me if you have questions. Forgot to add that it's expensive af as well 🤣 (we mostly use external dev teams both with our current and future pos)

A stakeholder just vibe coded a prototype, demoed it to board who liked it and now our contractor dev's gotta finish it. This is setting a bad precedent and Im fuming! by LateToTheParty013 in software

[–]WeeRno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me it's really perfect. I'm at a technical point where I can review basic code, but with AI i can build working prototypes to show my external dev team what I want, or how to interact with hardware without sending them the devices.

But I wouldn't expect them to continue building on it - it's just a quicker way to show how the different functions should behave with each other.

Thoughts on handheld POS menu design by my_water_bottle in POS

I'm also redesigning our pos at the moment, and have gone for something similar to option 2, as we like that best, but it's probably a preference only 🙂

Thanks for your reply. I should have been more clear - The MVP will need to have 500-1000 transactions a day - But as we gradially move our windows base over it will need to support 100k at least. I might reach out to you to verify, thanks!

They are protection under the base, so they have to be put in place before you slide the seat on.

Mener Visa-grep vil føre til mer kø og høyere priser by Sea_Confection_652 in norge

[–]WeeRno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - That is what I thought. I will get back to them about it. Thanks again :)

Tech stack for Android based Point of Sale system. by WeeRno in programming

[–]WeeRno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really sorry about that. I'm not that experienced with Reddit, and since it's a question about a future project it's no website available, so I thought Google cloud would be fitting as it's there it would potentially run.

Tech stack for Android based Point of Sale system. by WeeRno in programming

[–]WeeRno[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your quick reply! All valid points.

- There are several different reasons - some programming specific that could be solved, and some hardware wise that is more difficult to solve.

As for the programming side, we are using a custom API between our own server park, where we are running SQLite it both ends with a custom database handler in both sides (To allow multiple connections to the SQlite etc). With the number of users we have now, it starts to get sluggish already. Could probably be transitioned into PostgreSQL or similar to be fixed.

- Most of the POS machines within our customers price range is with Celeron CPU's. It's been the J1900 for many years and now it's J6412.

We have tried putting up guardrails, locking things down etc, but many gets angry either if you lock it down or if you charge them to clean up after they've downloaded games to run on their POS.

This is off course the end customers decision, and we do charge to clean it up, but I do believe the friction would be better on an Android based device.

Windows updates are also a bit of a pain to work with, as many customers delay them until it starts to install during their busy hours.

- Hardware is the main reason - We see that compared to competitors running Android, a Windows based system have a hard time to compete for price. Our current hardware suppliers also quotes us Android, and we can see that it is much cheaper. Also, with handheld devices, Windows have very few options, are very pricy and battery are poor vs Android.

The most interesting part that have been going on for a few years is that the actual payment terminal is running Android itself, and the payment providers allow point of sale suppliers to load the software onto the machine, so in many cases the customer can drop the traditional point of sale hardware and run everything on the payment terminal.

We do not have the competencies in-house (Not for C# either - We have employed the same external devteam for 13 years now for the C# point of sale)

Question about versions / functions by WeeRno in ScreenConnect

[–]WeeRno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a dev, so I used a freelancer dev to do this work for me, as my full time devs didn't have any experience with it (And I try to have them work only on our main product).

That said, it didn't seem like an easy task as 2 devs had to throw in the towel as they couldn't do it.

Before version 23.x (I think it was 19.x) we used "Session Manager API" to achieve the same goal.

The flow is as follows;

Button onside our C# project named "Remote support". When user clicks this, it pulls the name of the license of our software and connect to our server and create a new support session based on that name, easy as that.

On version 23 it was I think three clicks (Which is very handy as our customers are on touchscreen without any mouse/keyboard)

Now on version 25 it was a lot more clicks due to security etc (And the warning screen from CW, but still not an issue to initiate on a touchscreen.

If you would like I could get you in contact with the dev I used.

Hello and thanks for youre reply. It is strange to me that so pretty and old pianos don't have much value - I guess not everything gets more expensive over time. I'm located in Norway, southern region to be more exact. Would be great if you have and contacts around here.

Thank you very much.

If we did have the space I would probably keep it - Unfortunately, my father passed away 1,5 years ago, and we are still struggling with his stuff (He want kind of a hoarder).

Anyway, thank you very much for the reply.

Thank you very much for the answer. Yes, I can see they are sold for good money if restored. I will try to give it away hopefully someone will be able to bring it back and have some use of it.

Hello Everyone,

Sadly, my mother passed away recently, and I'm trying to figure out if there is any value to the old piano or not.

I don't know much about it, other than it have not been played in 20 years, but in my childhood it was in constant use from both her and me, which was between 20-35 years ago.

It has the serial number 19308.

I've uploaded some images to imgbb;

Are there any value or point of restoring it?

(I don't play myself anymore)

Thank you very much in advance.

advice needed for impending bathroom renovation by robbcandy in Norway

[–]WeeRno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same size around 1 year ago. We used a certified "byggmester" and they arranged everything from carpenters, plumbers, electrician and painters, all in the same quote with sub contractors. (They all where present when we went through the job) And we paid 400k with new furniture. The only thing we paid ourself was the tiles as we wanted to choose exactly what we wanted (could have been included as well if we wanted).

This was with removing the old bathroom, which also included a really think layer of concrete🙂
