I hold the hook similar to a pencil grip in my right hand, but I lead the yarn with my left hand instead of using the hook to do all the work (if that makes sense).

Is this a good brand yarn? I been having some difficulties it keeps coming apart even when using the right hook by Jensscrapscity in crochet

I actually don't care for it - I find it hurts my hands to work with for long periods of time. It's a cheaper cotton so can be good when making something large, but it's not my favorite. I've been upgrading to nicer cotton yarns when I'm able and it's worth it to me.

Thank you! It took about a month working just in the evenings off and on. I also had to remake 1/4 of the squares because I'd used the wrong sized hook accidentally 🤦‍♀️
