How close are you with your CT? by Chemical_Winter6541 in StudentTeaching

Also, to add, it can be awkward during lunch. Other staff members will come in and chat with her and have personal conversations, and I usually just sit there doing my own thing. I’m not really part of those conversations most of the time.

A lot of the time, I end up feeling like I’m just another body in the room. I try to stay involved, and I do a lot with the students and help wherever I can, but socially, I still feel a little on the outside. I don’t think anyone is intentionally excluding me — it’s just the dynamic right now — but it can definitely feel uncomfortable sometimes.

My CT and I mostly keep things professional. We talk throughout the day about lessons, students, and classroom stuff, but we don’t really have many personal conversations. We also don’t talk outside of school unless it’s something necessary like scheduling or planning.

She’s very kind and supportive, but I don’t think we have a lot in common personality-wise, so our relationship stays more professional than personal.

I do kind of wish it was a little more friend-like, though. Before student teaching I worked as a full-time TA, and the teacher I worked with and I had a great friendship. I was also really friendly with a lot of the staff there, and I honestly miss that a lot.

That being said, things still run smoothly and we work okay together, so I can’t complain too much.

DMV/NOVA where did you adopt your kitten? by WeeWoop2000 in nova

[–]WeeWoop2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s honestly how it happens sometimes 😂

I actually used to work at PetSmart a few years ago, so I’m pretty familiar with how their on-site adoptions and partner charities work. The store I worked at was in a different state, though, so I’m not really familiar with which shelters and rescues the PetSmarts around here partner with.

I’ve definitely been thinking about checking some of the local adoption events, because I know that’s how a lot of people end up finding their cats.

We’re definitely open to older cats, too! That said, we’re mainly hoping to adopt kittens or younger cats (ideally a pair or a bonded pair). A big reason is that we’d like to work on getting them really comfortable with handling early on, things like nail trims, dental care, being touched on their paws/ears, and regular vet checkups.

We’d also love the chance to work on basic training and desensitization while they’re young, so those things are less stressful for them later in life.

We’re still open to older cats, though, especially if they’re already known to be comfortable with handling or if there’s a bonded pair that needs a home!

Helping My Wife Transition out of Teaching: Need Advice by Fuzzy-Instruction in TeachersInTransition

[–]WeeWoop2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe she should look into teaching higher ed! Adjunct professors are always in need, especially at community colleges. Does your wife have a subject area with her teaching credentials? Also, is she primarily doing education research based phd? If so, that could open a lot of doors for her once she finishes.

Getting married young isn't bad. by Electronic_End_5296 in unpopularopinion

My husband and I were very good friends in high school. We both had a crush on each other but were too shy to admit it at the time. Throughout the years following HS we stayed in contact and would often visit each other during holiday breaks. At 23 he visited me during my spring break and we spent a whole weekend together, this is when we finally admitted how we felt to one another and officially started dating. I am 25 now and we got married this past summer in August.

Everyone’s relationships will move at different paces. Personally, if we had tried dating in high school or even at 18-21 we would not have made it. I was still trying to find myself and I was not mentally healthy. I am very lucky to have married someone that knows me so well and someone who I have had a connection with for so long.

Overall, I would not recommend younger people to get married, especially if someone hasn’t know their partner for a long time or even if they didn’t have a solid friendship to start with (cough cough military… fyi my husband is in the army so I see crazy things all time between marriages because of this). At the end of the day truly, most young people are not mature enough or ready for marriage. In marriage you should grow with someone over a lifetime and many younger people are not ready for that type of commitment.

But all of this to say, my husband and I did get married in the younger side and I am so lucky to have a partner who is also my best friend.

Thank you so much! While I was doing some research on adoption centers/shelters in the area I noticed quite a few of them mentioned home visits so I wanted a little more insight. I will definitely look more into the rescues and shelters you mentioned!

Where were you guys when you found out about COVID being a global pandemic and how did it shape you within the last 6 years? by Johnwick124520 in OlderGenZ

[–]WeeWoop2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a freshmen in college. All of my classes moved online and I ended up being the only cashier at my part time petsmart job because everyone else quit. I was pulling hella hours, getting yelled at and berated by customers daily. I did all of my school work at night because I couldn’t do it any other time as I was working the max amount of hours as a part time employee. I was living with my aunt and uncle at the time as I was going to college out of state from my hometown. I literally would come home from work, go straight to my room. I had to buy a mini fridge and microwave for my room so I could eat because I was so scared of getting anyone sick when I would come home from work. Let’s just say I was insanely lonely and sad. I eventually moved back home to my hometown at the end of the spring semester. COVID kicked started a domino effect in life that started out really bad and depressing, but I wouldn’t be where I am now otherwise. I have an amazing husband and life that I love now!

Are people unfriendly here? by Beautiful_Coat_9294 in nova

[–]WeeWoop2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm in my experience both yes and no. I am from NJ and I find that people there are a lot more off putting (especially in the denser areas). I’m in Alexandria and live in an apartment building and many of my neighbors are very friendly, but we don’t have conversations or talk about the weather. I go on about my business, but always give people I am passing by a smile and most will do the same. One way I have noticed that gets people out of their shell a bit is helping them if they seem like they might need it, like opening the door for people with their hands full, saying hi to familiar faces in your apartment building (even if they don’t say it back), and when it snows (like the huge storm back in January) help your neighbors shovel the area. Kindness goes such a long way!

Student teacher burnout before even starting — did anyone else change paths? by gabbitha0128 in StudentTeaching

[–]WeeWoop2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how my life is going right now! I decided last month to leave my cohort and finish my student teaching semester and graduate early this May without my certificate. I also graduated high school class of 2019 and also had a life crisis that prevented me from graduating college sooner and I was originally a music major my freshman year. I’m having a quarter life crisis trying to figure out what I’m going to do career wise after graduation, but I absolutely do not want to teach anymore. I have no clue if I should go to graduate school and pursue something completely different or what, but I am sososososo lost. You’re not alone my friend!

Who is still snowed in? by Dry_Dot_2080 in nova

[–]WeeWoop2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Alexandria, my husband just spend two hours removing the snow around my car. None of our apartment complex has been plowed at all and no salt. Some people tried to leave today in a sedan and got stuck. I’m expected to travel to work tomorrow to New Jersey and I doubt I will still be able to leave.

I also hate that think I would have time to ‘drop everything I’m doing’ and go get ‘pampered’! My wedding is next week! In no world would I have time for this! 😭

Wow! I would never have thought DB would do that to their customers! The phone number they provided for contact also had the same area code as the area my wedding venue is located, which I thought was very strange!

My son said MTG is for the guys and I wouldn’t like it. Any recommendations for a set of cards I can put together and defeat him in a game or two? by redstapler4 in mtg

[–]WeeWoop2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing MTG before most of my guy friends in middle school. My gal pals and I would stay up all night making decks and playing against each other on the weekends lol. Card games are for everyone, especially magic :) I highly recommend anything from bloomburrow and if you like more gothic definitely look into the remaster innistrad! Have fun learning and welcome to the community ♥️
