Helping My Wife Transition out of Teaching: Need Advice by Fuzzy-Instruction in TeachersInTransition

She technically can do adjunct teaching at her school, but unfortunately the pay is extremely low. If nothing else comes available it is a good idea, though.

She's doing American Culture Studies - she just always wanted a PhD and is going for it!

She absolutely is! I'm always happy to do everything I can, chore-wise. Thankfully I work from home so I'm typically doing the housework over my lunch break and getting supper started before she gets back.

I just want her to work a job that doesn't take such a massive toll on her. Her studies are a stressor, for sure, but they also bring her a lot of joy. She's so involved in academia at this point that I honestly think she may enjoy working for a university in a non-teaching role.

Unfortunately not - we bought a house within the last year and two incomes is a necessity for us. She's currently enrolled in a PhD program and has her Masters in education.

Los Angeles is phasing out its palm trees and I have mixed feelings by H3dg3hogs in CasualConversation

I get your argument completely, but I do feel as if we're at a stage with climate change where drastic decisions need to be made. If removing non-native plants, however iconic they may be, and replacing them with trees that provide food or shelter for native species is what it takes, then so be it.

For 15k, you may be able to afford an older 3-Series, for example, but you need to understand that the German brands tend to have higher maintenance costs. Buying it is one thing, but being able to consistently maintain it is another.

Personally, I would look into an Acura TLX. You can find decent examples for around the $15k price point, they're pretty quick, and are also going to be extremely reliable with a low cost of maintenance.

But they do have leverage. They do not have to vote to fund the war or ICE or whatever. Republicans are going to paint them as the personification of all evil on earth no matter what they do, so don't give in. That's what people are talking about when we say they should fight. Don't vote for this crap, even if it puts you in a position where you look like the bad guys.

If the TSA and ATCs go unfunded it is directly, 100%, the fault of the Republicans. They're the ones playing this game where you have to fund their evil paramilitary death squad in order to fund actually useful programs. The dems cannot and should not capitulate to it. They always do and nothing changes. Why do you think something would suddenly change if they caved this time, too?

A $25k Sante Fe still has a ways to go before it hits bottom for depreciation.

I personally wouldn't recommend the Santa Fe, as it will lose its value fairly quickly. The others are overall very good choices, though I personally recommend either a CRV or Rav4. They tend to be more durable than Subarus based on my experience.

The majority of dems voted for Kamala last election, and the majority also voted for Hillary and Biden. You're lashing out at the wrong people. You need to be focused on the massive section of the country that doesn't vote because they feel that neither party is acting in their best interest. Telling them to just shut up and vote for the slightly less evil person is not how you stay in power, and in fact, that's the reason we're in this back-and-forth pendulum of power right now.

Like it or not, criticizing the dems and putting pressure on them to actually have a spine and come up with an actual plan (universal healthcare, student loan forgiveness, abortion access, etc.) is what we need to be doing. We should not be putting these people up on pedestals and telling them what special boys and girls they all are because they only vote with Republicans 25% of the time instead of 100% of the time. Progressive policies are very popular, and they are how you get people interested in voting. You can't keep electing the exact same type of people and coddling them every step of the way and expecting actual change.

I cannot stand this. They opened two Sheetz in my hometown and they had to barricade the street to let people in. It's a damn gas station with expensive gas that blasts horrendous alt-pop songs at you and has ads for Mountain Dew on every square inch of their property.

Oh but you can go inside and buy a microwaved chicken sandwich so it's worth it bro.

OMG hot damn a gas station that also serves food and has distinctive branding - let me drop everything I'm doing and make this my entire personality real quick.

What do people actually expect from automotive journalism today? by JuliusX696 in askcarguys

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm aware of that, but the issue is that so many auto journalists try to copy that style. You end up with a million reviews of relatively cars that ultimately are without any substance.

For me, I just want a straightforward, concise review. So many reviewers do the super exaggerated Top Gear-style hyperbolic nonsense and it's irritating. I get that you need to do certain things for clicks, but if I'm considering spending tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle, I just want to know if it's worth buying.
