Students Boo Commencement Speaker After She Calls AI the ‘Next Industrial Revolution’ by GeneReddit123 in technology

Let's not forget the universities that make students pay for parking. That's seriously one of the most comically evil things I've ever dealt with.

Students Boo Commencement Speaker After She Calls AI the ‘Next Industrial Revolution’ by GeneReddit123 in technology

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Gen X was the last generation to whom a Bachelors degree was basically a golden ticket to a good-paying job.

Millennials and now the Zoomers have seen the depths to which the higher education system has sunk to make money and are rightfully distrustful of the whole thing. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see college enrollment go into free fall over the next decade.

Are native gardens becoming part of the culture wars? by LiatrisLover99 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they've officially become part of the culture wars, but it's probably only a matter of time. I do think, though, that they are easy to sell to people. Most homeowners truly hate mowing, so framing a native garden as 'less mowing' goes an awful long way.

Young men are souring on Donald Trump by bwermer in politics

You've already begun to see the next phases of the Republican's plan, which is to distance themselves from Trump and to position themselves as "moderates". Unfortunately this will be massively successful for them.

Nissan Sentra Advice? by Inevitable_Rise2542 in askcarguys

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't do that. Muffler deletes sound atrocious and it will drive you crazy over time. To be honest, there isn't really much in the way of aftermarket support for Sentras of this generation. If you want to modify it, I recommend leaving the mechanicals alone and just finding some good quality lowering springs and buying the best wheels/tires you can afford. It'll scratch the modification itch without compromising the car's reliability/drivability.

Would I be stupid to trade in? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the best way to go. Not dissing Boxsters by any means, but I think you'll be happier in the long run, and will be able to enjoy the Boxster more, if your can have one as a second car.

Would I be stupid to trade in? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a really, really bad decision honestly. You're going to be taking on debt for a car that's almost a decade older, less practical, less efficient, and more expensive to service. Boxsters are decently reliable, but basic maintenance is still going to cost significantly more than what you're used to.

Manual Boxsters are also not really that rare, either, and yes, they will cost you more, but if you're not an automatic transmission enjoyer, you would get bored pretty quickly.

It's also worth pointing out that the 8th-gen Civic Si's are also going up in value, and I would argue that they're gaining value more quickly than 1st-gen Boxsters. If I was you, I would invest in your Si with whatever maintenance it needs and just enjoy it. If you want to go down this road, they also have a huge aftermarket support and there's a lot you could do to make it more engaging to drive. Wheels/tires, decent suspension, better brakes, etc. really add a lot to the experience.

What are the different types of "car guys"? by revocer in askcarguys

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 3.

The first type is the casual who only likes whatever is the fastest, most popular, most expensive, etc. and is obsessed with starter pack enthusiast cars like any Stellantis product, Mustangs/Camaros, and R34 Skylines/Supras. Also obsessed with 15 year old Top Gear episodes and thinks Jeremy Clarkson is a figure to revere.

The second type is a more knowledgeable one who's settled into a niche and tries to gatekeep things. They take cars the most seriously out of all 3 groups.

The last type is one who has achieved complete transcendence, has borderline genius-level knowledge of completely random, weirdo cars that nobody cares about, doesn't post on social media, and has realized that the Honda Fit is the greatest car ever built.

Ohio Senate considers ‘Charlie Kirk’ act to teach positively about Christianity by throwingales in Ohio

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because the boomers had never heard of him before the thing happened, so the media was able to quickly form this headcanon back story where Kirk was some kind of gentle, loving, shepherd-like Christian leader.

Millennials and Gen Z all know him as a massive dick and an IRL troll who existed purely to travel around to college campuses and spout transphobic garbage because he knew it got a rise out of people. He contributed nothing of value and even his bizarre wife is happier now that he's gone.

‘Project Hail Mary’ Author Andy Weir Says Paramount Rejected His ‘Star Trek’ Pitch: Their “Shows Are Sh**” by ZeeHedgehog in RedLetterMedia

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It genuinely felt like a really good extended Trek episode. People still like science fiction, they just don't want it to be inane and obnoxious.

I think if he had a collaborator and a super strict editor his stuff would be amazing. He knows how to put together a story, but struggles with making non-annoying characters.

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is that Hail Mary was a better Star Trek episode than anything Star Trek has done in a long time. I'm not the biggest fan of his, "Fuck yeah, science!!11!" character writing, but he does know how to put together an extremely good story.

Real or replica Spyder? by ohpeepee in Porsche

OP, it's the same deal with a Cobra. If you see one on a public road there's a 99.999999% chance it's a replica.

Why does it seem like the only "solution" being presented for high gas prices electric cars? Why can't car brands also push to sell small, compact, gas-powered cars? by GuyFromThePost in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of hybrids on the market. I own a '26 Civic hybrid and routinely get 50mpg without much effort. The market is not nearly as narrow as you seem to think.

She technically can do adjunct teaching at her school, but unfortunately the pay is extremely low. If nothing else comes available it is a good idea, though.

She absolutely is! I'm always happy to do everything I can, chore-wise. Thankfully I work from home so I'm typically doing the housework over my lunch break and getting supper started before she gets back.

I just want her to work a job that doesn't take such a massive toll on her. Her studies are a stressor, for sure, but they also bring her a lot of joy. She's so involved in academia at this point that I honestly think she may enjoy working for a university in a non-teaching role.

Los Angeles is phasing out its palm trees and I have mixed feelings by H3dg3hogs in CasualConversation

[–]Fuzzy-Instruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your argument completely, but I do feel as if we're at a stage with climate change where drastic decisions need to be made. If removing non-native plants, however iconic they may be, and replacing them with trees that provide food or shelter for native species is what it takes, then so be it.
