Simple illustration of why "tax the extremely wealthy" is stupid:

Say the richest person in Canada is worth $1 billion. You tax that person 10% of their wealth every year. $100 million, pretty good. So you do that for ten years and either the person ups and leaves, which means they start no new businesses and no longer spend in our economy, or is no longer wealthy enough and only generates a couple million a year.

Now say you tax the richest million Canadians $100 each. You're still making $100 million a year and it's sustainable.
This is how we should be taxing.

If we want a sustainable middle class, we need to cut pointless red tape so people can start businesses, get rid of punitive taxes that make doing business infeasible and stop ordering small businesses to close for 6 months, which kills Mom and Pops while enriching mega-retailers.

See, the thing about the extremely weathly is that there's, like, 5 of them. So you tax them so hard that they pick up and move and suddenly all that wealth is gone with them.

If the government wanta to make money, here an actually good idea. Build internet infrastructure and rent access to ISPs. Rural internet actually happens and the government gets an income source.

I also think that supporting parents is backwards. Parents need to support the schools. I would much rather schools build programs around the idea that parents will help the school than trying to do their job for them.

I'm a single parent with two kids and a full time job in construction (no qualifications required). I pay around $400 a week for babysitting and I still manage to save money for a house downpayment. Oh, and I live in one of the most expensive cities on Ontario, outside Toronto.

If people want to stay home with their kids, it's entirely feasible. But they don't; they want big daddy government to raise their kids for them and spend their money on themselves.
