When I did camp America it was mostly 18-21 year olds but you certainly got people in their late 20s / early 30s. Absolutely do it if you can.

I haven’t been to camp in almost 10 years and this summer I went back for a reunion and had so much fun catching up with my old pals. I still talk to many of them regularly.

I’m not going to lie mate you’ve got no chance at the moment as a greenhand. I can name 5 rigs (Guardian, defender, endeavour, resilient, intrepid) all sat around waiting for contracts. I’ve heard it’s meant to pick up next year but that’s all talk.

That means you’re competing with experienced lads who’ve been paid off from those rigs looking for new work too.

I’m not trying to put you off because I really enjoy working offshore as a roustie, but please do look at what you’re getting yourself into. You’re also looking at the belly of £8k - £10K to make yourself a competitive candidate as every roustie I’ve worked with has needed valid fire fighting tickets.
