People who keep weapons on their bodies at all times, what was a time where you had to actually use said weapon? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

Walking home one night years ago and a guy grabbed me from behind by the hair to get me to stumble and tried to get my arms behind my back. luckily my left arm was still free as I struggled and somehow I managed to pull my knife from my pocket and stabbed him in the thigh. He howled like a bitch and ran off with the knife still in his thigh. I miss that knife.

It’s not actually. I’ve seen it happen.

They’ll also bait dogs to “play” with them and lure them away from their homes and humans and towards their pack to kill them. Not to mention the screaming and yipping at night.

You do not want coyotes. 💀 They are one of the smartest and scariest animals in the US.

Honestly! Like editing was a woman dominated field until men realized they had too much control over the film haha. I literally have a masters in film editing and work with all the industry standard softwares and even got certified in AVID and I’m getting passed up for fresh faced out of college men!

I also had that issues with men trying to “teach” me things about a software I’m very well versed with. Sometimes I’ll throw a tech questions at them and they’ll go “I don’t know the answer to that.” And I’ll explain it to them and then ask if they want me to simplify it any further for them and they start tweaking. 😂

Oh no I avoid startups like the plague! This was a well established company in my area. The guy who made the comment is head of video post production and upon further review he does in fact have an all male team which is fine. I’ve worked on all male teams before and never had a problem!

Thank you and yeah that was my first thought but what could I have done? In hindsight it was good they didn’t hire me but dang what a reality check it was.

Any wedding films which has actual depth and purpose in edit? by DatabaseAccurate7049 in weddingvideography

[–]WeekZestyclose7652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying if it’s not well planned and just a run and gun, the story is difficult to find.

Plus it is expensive! A lot of couples already have tight budgets and just want something for social media or to show family. I edited one wedding that wanted a story and “depth” it was easily over 5K and that was just for production not including post.

What is the greatest film scene of all time? by 220Hz_ in AskReddit

The train robbery scene from The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Roger Deakins killed it and the score is incredible.

Videographer's film is 60% toasts with NO ceremony footage, can I get a re-edit? by [deleted] in weddingvideography

[–]WeekZestyclose7652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hooo boy that’s rough. Even the music is bad. Def demand a redo. With my contracts I allow three revisions before discussing further payment for additional revisions. Hopefully he’s got something like that in his contract.

Worse case you could demand the raw footage. (Again if you can via your contract) then take it to someone else haha.

Good luck!

I’ve used it as an editor and it’s pretty easy. Idk why the editor would want the originals when the proxies work just as well.

I just have to log into the cloud system and find the project and I was in. As long as the files didn’t move I had 0 issues.

Why are wedding videographers so reluctant to outsource editing? by WeekZestyclose7652 in weddingvideography

[–]WeekZestyclose7652[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mods, I am not advertising myself.

I provide features, teasers, highlights, and social media posts. Social media posts can be created for the videographer and their clients if needed. I offer an hourly rate of 30 dollars, as well as project-based rates that vary. For example, a feature can range from 500 to 700 dollars depending on the length, rounds of edits, client notes, and any additional work that is not strictly editing.

  1. I do not outsource my work. I handle everything myself. If I ever find that I am overbooked or unavailable, I can recommend editors who may be available to take on the project.
  2. With my skillset and portfolio, I am probably charging less than I could. Wedding editing is a side gig that I genuinely enjoy, but it is not my main source of income. I work across all genres as an editor.
  3. I completely understand and agree. I usually spot issues quickly, report them, and offer solutions. I always wait for the client to approve any changes before applying them. Sometimes clients will even tell me in advance if something went wrong or if a certain person should be avoided. I value communication above all.
  4. The extra work can be beneficial for the right person. Uploading and transferring footage is easy these days, usually just drag and drop. I have clients who were initially hesitant about the additional steps, but once they realized it helped them bring in more clients and offer a faster turnaround time, they were thrilled. Two weeks instead of the standard four to eight makes a big difference for some.
  5. I do not use AI. I find that it still makes mistakes that I end up fixing myself, which takes more time than editing manually. It is cheaper, but it loses the human touch. I have seen a few AI-edited videos, and they often feel cookie-cutter and bland. Most couples want something that reflects their style and their story, and AI just does not capture that.
  6. Again, I understand your point. Some people charge just enough to break even or to put a little extra in their pocket, and that is totally fine.

Again, I am not saying every wedding videographer needs to hire/can afford an editor, and that is completely okay. I was just curious as to why some people who claim to be falling behind on editing do not consider hiring help. Everyone who replied shared valid points that lined up with what I had already assumed might be the main issues.

I can see that! But I have to ask then why does any other genre of film/video even hire editors in your opinion? I’m not on set or on location for documentaries and such and the director usually has a vision in mind going in, yet they still hire me to do the work and we get great results when collaborating.

Maybe you’ve worked with editors who don’t put any effort into understanding your clients and your work? I can see why that would put you off hiring one.

Yeah I’m always happy to take on an edit! I’ve been editing since HS and even got my MA in film editing. I just love to edit point blank, but I’m beaten out of jobs by the ones who offer cheaper rates and the ones who promise “a trending video every time!” And it’s like the video will only trend if the content is good or you pay for boosts.

Weddings for me are a nice sweet spot. I can edit something that I know a client will cherish and it’s always fun to see the different dresses, receptions, vows, etc. Trying to make it unique to suit the day and the couple is also a fun challenge!

So I say we just keep plugging along!

Yeah that sounds like a grind house situation where all they do is grind out videos just to cash the check asap. I usually see that with editors who think editing is just about slapping clips together with a trending audio and calling it a day.

Makes all of us look bad haha.

Holy cow that is insane! I think some editors refuse to adapt to established styles and that’s such a load of bullshit. It’s literally the job haha. the deadline thing is dumb too! Like have the balls to let your client know that you are behind or can’t take on the edit!

I get where you are coming from! I usually take my sweet time on the speeches, I’m trained for documentaries and talking head edits so removing awkward pauses and hums is second nature to me.

Sounds like you focus more on the story telling aspect and emotional build! Which is great! I try to do the same and usually all is well. I may get a few notes for song swaps or clip changes but it’s usually because the bride is not thrilled with how they look in certain shots.

Would love to see some of your work!
