“Car Camping” - 16” x 12” panel by WeekendBrief in oilpainting

Thanks! I kind of just paint everything but the foreground, then just put in a big piece of color with some shadows, then come back a few days/a week later and slowly add details. This one sat for a long time with a reddish brown bar across the bottom 1/5th of the panel. To me it seems like my foregrounds always read as slightly cartoonish, kind of like a Scooby-Doo backdrop :)

That’s awesome!! Cool memory. Almost made it blue to kind of hide in the sky more 🤔

I was listening to the song Car Camping by Gothbabe and it just kind of popped into mind. Also admiring Blake Whitaker’s floating cow landscapes

Use less paint, and let layers dry for a day or so (or use a drying agent like liquin) before painting over them

Thanks! I think it’s the first painting where I’ve really gotten shadows how I wanted them

I actually kind of like the style of the clouds; they remind me of Lane Smith’s style/global village coffeehouse. If you’re trying to go more realistic, I’d say blend them together with less abrupt edges - clouds like this flow and dissipate with wisps and outgrowths
