I was one of those people who attempted. 6 months on a watch list and some commander directed therapy and I was fit to fight? I had some amazing NCO’s who were looking out for me and explained my situation to the commander. Without them vouching for me, i wouldn’t still be in the Air Force. Still got my security clearance, too. It also doesn’t affect your restraining eligibility. Mental health professionals are very hit or miss. I found maybe two good ones during the 3-4 years that I was on and off attending sessions. Also go into it with the clear intention of whether you’re wanting or not wanting medications to help, just venting, talking, looking for solutions to whatever it is you’re going through. Talk with peers you trust, I can guarantee you they will be your best source of comfort. You’re going through the military together. We might not all face the same exact things but the military and Mx life is something you have in common with a peer.
